One of my tires is toast, for those with 285 65 20
I ran through some azzholes thought of fun tonight at a car wash. The end result is one of my tires has a couple wounds, once of which will not be repairable.
This means I buy one stock GY, run 10-15K more then replace them all, or just replace them all now.
I really like the Bridgestone Dueller Revos and that will be my choice if I stay stock size.
If I go bigger those are out as that is the biggest one they make. I would probably then go with BFG KOs.
For those with the 285 65 20s.... How many MPGs did you loose? Is the loss based on your computer or hand calc and did you re-calibrate your speedo? Without the re-calibrate both your computer and hand would be off (lower than acutal) as your odometer would read less miles than you actually went.
Would also be helpful to hear from 3.92 owners with the 285 65 20s.... At highway speeds with 3.92s it may be about the same?

I had a set of 285/70R20 BFG AT's and loved the tire but recalibrated speedo (GPS Verified) and lost a solid 4MPG closer to 5 most times based on hand calcs and computer was close to showing the same. Switched them out to a set of Toyo AT's stock size and instant fuel gain. I have a 4X4 Crew Cab 09 with 3.92's
I went with the Toyo AT LT275/65R20s. This means a 34" tire, with the stiffer sidewalls of the Light Truck vs Passenger tire. All combined, I lost 2-3MPG (hand or computer) and Speedo is Off by 2-3MPH at freeway speeds.
The tread design on the Toyo AT is significantly larger blocks than the BFG AT KO, which seems to reduce the MPG "Hit". But the BFGs are well-loved by most owners, as are the Toyo AT (if by a smaller owner group).
Moving from the "Stock GY" Highway / Passenger tires to an AT series (BFG or Toyo or other) will effect other aspects than just Mileage - Ride, Noise, Dry Traction, Wet Traction, Longevity, and Looks. It really depends on exactly what your priorities and usage might be...

I had a set of Bridgestone Dueller Revos on my Nissan Xterra. Great tires that were leaps and bounds above the Generals that came on it stock. I'd put 75K miles on it before I traded the Nissan in on my RAM, and the tires still had quite a bit of life left in them.

Figure 2 MPH missing.
If you average 35MPH on a tank, that would be about 11 hours of running, or 385 miles
If you add the missing 2MPH you really went 407 miles on the same amount of gas. Which would be about 1.5MPG of the 2-3 you are missing. So with this very rough math that is .5-1.5 lost.
I have already decided to stay stock size. Revos will be on this week. I just put to many miles on it to deduct MPGs and it will be worse next year when I move.
I had to replace the RF Goodyear tire 3 days after I purchased the truck and last month a nail ruined the RR. I had enough of those POS tires and purchased a set of Firestone Destination LE's, a great tire with tons of great reviews, sits on the 20 inch rims nice and fat with plenty of tire protecting the rim. Ride is quiet, feels much more stable in the turns, I towed a trailer 3000 miles on them and couldn't be happier.
$723 out the door and that included sales tax, road haz warranty, lifetime rotation, etc.
And yes I put the RWL out
they look badass!

PS: I lost no mpg and my speedo is right on and I have 3.92's

Sounds like my luck Coolidge. 5 days after buying the truck we're on a trip to the coast. Tire blew with less than 300 miles on the truck.

They patched the 2nd factory tire 4 times but could not get it to seal and it was just a little 1 1/4 inch long spike about the size of an average finish nail. Went in at an angle. They sent me out of the shop on my spare and I drove over to Tire Factory and got a set of Firestone Destination LE's.
I have not tried the LE's on ice and snow yet but I can confirm they are awesome in the heaviest Florida torrential rain. Drove them clear across the country to Oregon towing a trailer. 95 heat for about 1,500 miles. All manner of flat, winding, hills, mountains, buffeting 50mph winds, the Dodge was glued to the road.
