87 Octane vs 89 Octane..
As for 90+, without a proper tune for that octane, you will see no benefit, just more cost at the pump.
Perfect! thanks a lot I will run on 89.

Predetonation is audible, even in this truck as quiet as it is. Spark knock in other words used to happen to my Durango R/T, I had to run minimum midgrade and since I ran high test a few tanks it started to like it and I was stuck using it after that, I could not get rid of the spark knock without running 90 plus octane, or throw in some octane boost. So don't put anything more than midgrade unless you have a tune that requires it. As far as what happened wow I cannot see it as an issue whatsoever. Just go back to Ctire mid next time. What do you mean they don't have ethanol in their gas? Is this only Ctire cuz I read all the pumps they all have ethanol. hmmmm that is interesting and no ethanol is better for an engine? why? Time for google.
I have three gas stations close to me.. an Ultramar which states "up to 10% ethanol on their 89 grade, a Mr. Gas which states "Ethanol blend" on their 89 grade and Canadian Tire which after speaking with the manager apparently has no ethanol in their 89 grade. As far as why no ethanol if possible, definetly google the reasons, here's a start..

Could the cause of my problem be related to the fuel I put in. I fill up with octane 92. When I come to a full stop, within a second or two of being stopped, it feels like getting kicked under my seat? or could it be something else. Can anybody help or had that problem before.
What I am having trouble undestanding with all of this is that I get BETTER gas mileage when I run 87 octane. I have an 03 Hemi Ram (quad cab, 4X4) and always get about 1 or 2 mpg better running 87 octane. The truck does have a cat back exhaust and a CAI. Werid right? i drive with the same style, same places etc... and i cannot explain it.
Personally I find that if I go to Crappy Tire, I need to use the high grade fuel (91), not mid grade (87). If I go to Petro Canada, mid grade is fine. My Comments come from hauling a trailer, I get better fuel mileage from a company that owns refineries than I do from a cheap gas distributor. My experience is about 10% better mileage from first run gas.
As an example, hauling a 7000 lb trailer, using Canadian tire gas ( 1/2 tank consumed) using Petro Can ( Between 1/4 and 1/2 tank consumed), yes I went the same direction both times.
Bottom Line Pay a little more for better quality mid grade than cheap high grade. I have also tried 87 octane and the truck idles rough at stop lights.

Its not just 10 cents a gallon more, on long island 89 can run 25 cents more, still not a big deal but then factor 2 mpg less and it is just irritating to spend more money and get worse mpg. When I switched to 89 i didnt mind the cost, i would have been happy with the same mpg though.
I have been running 87 since I got my truck in February. I just started hearing a knock and just filled up with 89. I will see if there is a difference. I also noticed my truck was starting to run a little rough at idle.
After a couple of tanks of 89 I will report back my findings.
I used to use the cheaper gas stations when I owned my other vehicle and had to replace all of my fuel injectors after 2 yrs. I asked the mechanic why this would happen and he said it was probably the gas I was using. I got my gas from the same gas station all the time. Since then I pay the extra couple of cents a litre for the premium quality gas. I am not taking a chance with my hemi.
