Default Break-in Period

Just bought a new RAM 1500 SLT 4x4 Hemi 5.7 ... what's the break in period on this engine?

I'm getting pretty good mileage now with only 1000 KMs on it but should I see some improvements in gas mileage and performance coming up?

I found a BIG difference in power around 12K kms, almost like a switch was turned on, but didnt get any really good mileage until 27-30K. By good I mean about 20mpg highway.

I saw about a 200 rpm drop at 65 mph between 3k and 5k miles. Hit 20 mpg at this time also on highway driving.

Every truck is different and everyones driving habits and driving environments are different, all the trucks will probably have different break in periods as well as different mileages in the end.

Unless you plan on driving over 150000 miles there is no point in doing a break in...

My hemi mileage and power improved around 6K miles...

Doesn't everyone want their trucks to last as long as possible? Break in is definitely important to the longevity of the drivetrain

You'd think! I see no point in beating any kind of new equipment.More to 'break in' then the engine.

I drove the truck nicely for about 500-ish miles and then start to open her up. Didn't really do anything nuts until 1000 miles though.
