Default Tranny Cooler

Took a 20+ hour roadtrip this past week. Pulling about 7500 pounds. While it is a good load for the truck it did amazingly well. Pulled hills, no sway, hardly knew the trailer was there. That is until you looked at the tranny temp guage. It ranged from 175 up to 215 quite often and then would spike at times, hitting up to 240. FAR higher then I would like.

Is there an aftermarket or factory upgrade to the OEM tranny cooler out there? I would like to get it running way cooler!

Default Try Earls

I've used Earls products before and they are top of the line. Give them a call with your needs and they may be able to set you up. They have everything you need for custom setups. You will need to put this inline to the stock one.

If you already have a tranny cooler then the next step would be a Mag Hytec or PML pan. More fluid capacity and cooling fins...

I have to do some checking, but I have the trailer tow package that should include a tranny cooler. If so, it isn't doing it's job. I guess I will talk to my dealer and see what my options are. I would rather put in a larger unit then have a trans fail due to heat. I would think they would rather me do that then them put in a trans under warranty but you never know.

The trailer tow package on the 2009 1500s was nothing more than the hitch.

From the FSM:
GAS ENGINES

An air-to-oil transmission oil cooler is standard on all engine packages. The transmission oil cooler is mounted to the front of the radiator above the power steering cooler.

I did not get the trailer package but I have a tranny cooler up front along with all the other coolers. I believe the trailer package came with an upgraded tranny cooler.

Nope, that is why all the towing charts only show "HD cooling" because they put the exact same tranny cooler on all the trucks.
