There are 2 types of factory flaps. There are the molded plastic type, which are cute but offer limited protection and there are the heavy duty type which are flat rubber and provide pretty decent protection - but don't look as nice.

Go for the rubber HD ones from dodge. I started with the molded plastic ones but ditched them for the rubbers since I broke all but one of the plastic ones last fall driving through fields.

Here's my favorite picture that shows how well the Heavy Duty flaps keep the crap off the side of the truck

How long they been on your truck? Take one off and see if it is scratching the paint. The molded flaps will wear through your paint unless you put some kind of protection between it and your paint.

x2 I started with these and like i said broke them with mud in the field and when I took them off they had already started to wear into the clear coat and they had only been on for 2 months. Just go with the HD rubber ones and you wont have to worry

It's been mentioned to use the clear tape time and time again. They look much better than the flat flaps and also do the job.
