NAV update DVD
I purchased the nav disc because I had certain areas that were not showing up on the nav. After spending 220.00 and installing the updated disc it still fails to show certain areas. I called navtec and they said this is the most updated disc that they have and maybe the area in question is too new even though the street changes where done more than 5 years ago. Save your money, I would do the update every 5 years, otherwise you are just buying the same disc over and over.
I have the latest updated database (I called to confirm – V3.3.3) If you live in Ontario and go beyond Southern Ontario you are screwed. The cities are present, even the back roads, but they cannot be searched as they are not digitalized. In the conversation with Navteq they said they provide various other manufacturers such as Garmin with the map data and that it is up to the manufacturer to present the information. BTW Garmin has all the cities in Northern Ontario. So if you are looking for Canadian mapping, do not waist your money. IMO it looks stupid to have a truck with built in GPS and a Garmin as well.
Now you say so after I go thru all kinds of work to swap REN out to the nav unit. Have you noticed that Mapquest is run by Navteq and well we have some streets that are new my nav unit shows a new arena but it doesnt show the roads to get to it, neither does the mapquest online
Oh ya I was wondering about that how do you know if really it is a bad neighborhood you are gonna be going thru. Would it be best to take as many freeways as possible? I can't just leave the driveway without having looked at a map and have a plan in my head and instructions written down in my own language LOL and I will use the Nav for POI's to eat, gas, stuff like that.

The Nav system is an expensive option that is not worth the money. I would hate to think I spent the $199 they want to unlock the disc they sent and still not see the road that has been there for 5-10 years. You can update a Garmin much cheaper, and is easy to use. I am disappointed in the nav system.
