Default NAV update DVD

I just got a NAV update DVD in the mail. The only hook is that it sends you to a link to pay $199 to unlock it. Is this the only way to update the NAV? Anyone else get this DVD? If so is the update worth the price?

I purchased the nav disc because I had certain areas that were not showing up on the nav. After spending 220.00 and installing the updated disc it still fails to show certain areas. I called navtec and they said this is the most updated disc that they have and maybe the area in question is too new even though the street changes where done more than 5 years ago. Save your money, I would do the update every 5 years, otherwise you are just buying the same disc over and over.

IMHO, no. If you consider the modest amount of work going into an update one has to wonder if we’re getting our pockets cleaned. After all, the great bulk of the data is already in place. And do we know if the “update” really contains ANY new data? The product label doesn’t say how much is added, we are buying a pig in a poke.
Frankly I’m disappointed in my NAV system. I understand the logic behind not letting a driver to fuss with controls, so I have to stop and put my truck in PARK to find a new location. And leave my engine running, a waste of gas. The process defaults to only locations in their system, so if you enter an address that the system doesn’t recognize, you have to start all over again. So here I am, entering data and praying all the while that the street number is correct or back I go. And God forbid if I turn off my engine after I enter a new destination—Gone! Start all over again! Hmm. The Attractions add on probably only lists businesses that pay for advertising so I often wonder what kinds of other options I really have.
Well, now you got me going but you see where I’m headed. I use NAV less and less, rely on good ol’ maps because, as you know, real men don’t ask directions.

Its not just the truck NAV units even the portable ones are like that. New areas it will not show even after the latest and greatest updates so your best bet is to just stick with maps.

Get any Android Phone and use Google NAV its the best and its updated regularly.

Went on a tip to Dallas a few weeks ago and used the nav in the truck and that thing got me lost. Didn't even have roads where I was driving on the highway. So I went to my HTC Hero used my Google Nav worked liked a charm

That is a suggestion or just use the voice recognition, if you train it it works good. Now I don't know how the mirror mics work but I have one from coastal and it works great even with blow on medium and all the windows down and one of those stupid construction bulldozer that the don't oil the tracks so they don't collect dirt. and it still did what I told it. I just installed it tonight but i didnt hook up the lockpick to it since i am going to have it added to my options list.

I have used the NAV in my truck and my Droid Nav at the same time, the Droid suggested a better route. Last I checked I wasn't paying $200 to update my Droid. Not to mention the nifty street level view I get of my destination.

Have you noticed that the nav unit brings you through the most crime infested area when it could of gone a different, safer route.

You must not have selected the option to avoid slums and ghettos.
