Default viper 5901 in 2010 1500

hello all. i recently purchased a 2010 ram 1500 (did first oil change today and that oil filter was hell to get off!). does anyone know if the viper 5901 alarm system has any issues when used with these trucks?? does the keyfob or trucks system need to be "flashed" after install?? any advice would be helpful as i will be having it installed.....or having factory one put in. not concerned with price of viper as i can purchase at good price and have someone to install (that does as a job, but is doing on the side). would prefer viper as it has more options.

thx a million

i wouldnt go with a viper. too expensive and not worth it. check ur local dealer and have them install the mopar alarm/remote start. holds under ur warranty too! pay once and have it fixed for life. or buy a viper...have it mess up or die or anything else...and ur out of money

I have the 5902 and love it. You will need an adapter called CHALL which will interface with the factory harness.

I have the Smart Start option so I can control it from my iPhone. If my alarm goes off, I get a message on my phone (like a text).

Smart Start also works with Android and BB too.

It's all about the installer. I strongly caution having it done at a business you can hold responsible!

ya, because Viper doesnt know alarms...going with an authorized DEI rep and insured installer is much safer than having a mechanic install a Mopar kit from the instruction manual..not to mention the Viper has much more options

well considering i know 3 people with vipers, one just recently got one...and all went to hell with em. dead remotes within 3 months, needing to buy other parts just to use the actual alarm/remote start itself, which is more money. i mean honestly...who really needs to use their I-phone to start their truck...use the buttons on ur key! by the time u put ur password in ur phone and press a button to start ur truck up...u could have already pressed the mopar one on ur key. less button pushin! work smarter, not harder

i never said viper doesnt know alarms bigred, beacuse obviously they do, but depending on ur vehicle...you have to purchase other products just for their product to work! why not get something for less, does the same thing, and is covered under your warrenty, by an insured registered dodge dealer? plus viper alarms cant roll down my windows!

You are not familiar with Viper products or their features.

Yes, you usually need an additional part that will interface with the type of vehicle you own which will allow the alarm to operate with the factory computer.

In addition, Viper alarms can roll down windows, turn on your stereo, open your sunroof, operate power doors or lift gates and roll your windows back up which the factory alarms wont do.

Starting my truck using my iphone allows me to start the truck from my office without having to see my truck. I receive a push notification (text) that my truck is running. You cant do that with a factory or Mopar remote start. With a factory or Mopar remote start, you must see your vehicle to make sure the vehicle started and the distance from which you can start your vehicle is not that great. So when on the other side of a shopping mall you can start your vehicle with the factory one but with a Viper one, you can start it and receive confirmation that it did start. By the time you walk out to your truck with your bags and family, the truck is warm.

If my alarm goes off, I receive a notification so I can go check it out. I actually caught a lady who hit one of my trucks backing out of a parking space and she was pulling away. My key fob alerted me that my alarm was going off and I ran out to the parking lot and was able to chase her down. She paid me cash for the repairs because she did not want the cops called. That covered the cost of the Viper alarm itself.

It all comes down to finding a very good shop(tech) to install it.

Had a Viper 5901 on my 09 ST and loved it, range was awesome and never had any problems. Have the factory system on my 2010 TRX and HATE it....the range sucks, its not two way so I have no idea if my truck started ir not(9 times out of 10 it didnt) and dont have any of the features of the Viper.

I'm considering trading my truck in when I get back from the desert for a Sport and when I do I'll be putting a Viper back in.

Plus, you live in Texas where as I live in the cold northern state of Michigan, so it makes more sense that a remote start would top my list.

I bought tires too, Cooper Zeon, which ride nice and have had great tread wear!

Good luck!

I'm not here to argue your point as you feel you're right when i know you're not. I wanted the OP to know that Viper alarms are great and dont be discouraged by one uneducated consumer.

As far as you're above post, i don't have an Iphone or a Droid or any other expensive phone. You're "factory alarm/starter" is in fact not factory but is an optional accessory that i'm sure you payed too much for. I don't see where you're extra money comes into play here?
