Default Powergate Tailgate Lock and Backup Camera

Hello All,

I'm about to order the Powergate Tailgate Lock LK170 and I was wondering if anyone has installed an aftermarket keyhole camera in the handle on the opposite side of the tailgate lock assembly. Looking at the taigate, it appers that you could install a camera on the right hand side of the lock. I was going to use a dremmel tool to make the cutout and mount a surface mount keyhole camera.

If anyone has any suggestions on cameras they have installed, any info would be appreciated. Some cameras seem so cheap that it must be too good to be true... Others just don't have much information at all on thier websites.

Any help would be much appreciated.

I used a 1/2 inch hole saw. It works better than the dremel because the hole comes out perfect. But you need the camera measurement first to determmine the hole size.

I purchased my nav unit and they included the rear view camera. The site, if I remember correctly is www.oemautopartsco.com

I did it because you have to when you use that lock u are using as I did....tons of room on the passenger side just dont do what I did I just figured it would fit so I drill left side, then I thought no good so I got a handle off a member and drilled it accidentally on the wrong side so I have 2 handles drilled on the wrong side lucky another member shot me another handle and it works fine. It is larger than a keyhole I think I had to drill 1 1/8 the drillbit came with it,,,just some cheapos now I dont have them hooked up since I upgraded to a nice RER got it for 150 had a damaged screen, found a screen now I have a new RER Nav setup total cost 300 including ipod cable. That was a hundred, Oh I have a lockpick that I am using to hook up the cams but I dont want to until I have the Radio scanned into the vehicle. In event of recalls etc.

I got them from Ebay, from Hong Kong or somewhere, I tested one when I was installing my REN and it was great like really great for 21.98 bucks each including shipping, I quoted 170 degrees and 12 leds I was wrong it was 9 leds and 120 degrees , I found I was getting a RER Nav radio so I didn't wire anything because I wasn't sure if I was going to use the lockpick or just hook in to the radio but I have decided the lockpick so now I wait for a day where the truck will not be needed which seems to be rare these days. Anyway I havethe camera in just need to run wires the pain in the ***. I want a nice clean job why I am not rushing. The cameras cam with holes saws even. For the price I can replace them yearly LOL
http://cgi.ebay.com/ws/eBayISAPI.dll...ht_3287wt_1018 I think the wiring was a bit on the cheap side so I upgraded a bit...not necessary but I am a goof. I might not even use the new wiring just put it all in protection. I need to drill at least half inch hole in the firewall somewhere on drivers side since it will be double the wiring since I am putting a cam out front too. I have had the lockpick and cameras for since like May or maybe sooner LOL. The plan is to have it in by the end of the long weekend but I won't hold my breath.

That's the hardest part, I ran mine inside the tailgate through the access hole. From there the wires split, one set gets attached to your reverse lights and the other set gets ran on the drivers side frame rail into the engine bay through a gromet on the drivers side fire wall and into your cabin. Bring lots of zip ties and some weatherstrip adhesive to repair the larger gromet opening..

Mine all get attached to my lockpick and the back of the radio. I think I will stick with running it all under in wire loom along the trailer wiring.I have to see if I can fit the power lock wiring in with it or just leave it alone how it is now. Was supposed to work on it today but we spent the day looking for and then finally bailing our dam dog out of the pound. She took off last night. Home sweet home 110 bucks later.
