Default After trip to the dealer questions

Hi Group,
Went to the dealer today. I bought some tow mirrors for my 09 1500 RAM 5.7ltr trx. They installed my previous mopar towing mirrors. The new tow mirrors I used are for a 2010 2500 but do fit the 09 1500. The parts guy said they were only available with the turn signal lights on them. It turns out the wire is there (in door) for the lights (there also have a curiosity light on each one). The mirrors fit fine and look great. The power works so I am pretty positive the heat will work. The lights don't work. The dealer told me they called the Dodge hot line was told the lights should work. Apparently the dealer was told to reset the "computer" and drive it around. No lights. Has anyone had this issue before? While I wasn't into the lights, since they are there I would like them to work.

Next, I asked the dealer to shut of the fuel saver mode. What they did was go in the evic and turned off the fuel saver light and said that disabled the fuel saver mode. While I don't visit the forum alot, I was under the impression turning off the light was just turning off the light.

thanx, nod

How much did the mirrors run you? I've been wanting to upgrade to the 2010 style tow mirrors

I drive in city traffic and the fuel saver constantly kicks in and out. I find that annoying as i feel the truck is slugging out. If I was on a highway trip on cruise control, the fuel saver would be fine.

I paid $680.00 and some change plus $108.00 for installation.

worth it to me!!!

Your computer probably needs to be programmed to be told that the mirrors are installed so that it knows to enable the in-mirror signals. Go back to the dealer and ask them to find the setting in the computer (with their Starscan tool or whatever the latest is called) and enable it.

Bingo. That option only turns off the display on the EVIC. The engine will still kick into MDS regardless. As far as I know the dealer doesn't have the option to turn off MDS with the Starscan. To really turn it off you'll need an aftermarket programmer. Diablo, Superchips, and Bullydog will all three kill the MDS and are well worth the cash for the performance gains alone. You'll probably read it on here as you do the research, but make sure you never take the truck into the dealer with the aftermarket programming installed. Always return the computer back to "stock" before taking it in for a service.

Well Nod, I had the same issue with my 2010 SLT. I also got the tow mirrors and found the lights on the mirrors did not work. I took it to the dealer and they had it for a day and ahalf. They phoned me to tell me my truck does not have the in mirror signal light option and I would have to pay for the wiring and changes to the computer settings. Everything else works including the heated mirror part. I just said OK to the dealer thinking that they had checked and the lights would never work. Now I'm thinking there may be a fix.

Are these the same mirrors that you have? I priced these a while ago and they only came $450

Thank-you for the replies.

Maybe I'm not with program. I figure the dealer should already know this since they are the experts I was surprised when they said they would do it for free. I questioned the mechanic and was informed the fuel saver was off since the light was off. Oh well, I guess superchips will be getting some of my money.

I don't think so. The parts guy took the VIN off a new 2010 2500 and then looked up factory replacement and that is what I have.

As far as the lights go I am going to run with what doug58 said. Makes me wonder why the wiring is there for the turn signal lights. I dunno

as a side note, the dealer called the dodge tech support. Tech support said the lights should work. What I was told the reset the computer and then drove the truck around. I know they reset every thing as all my changes were back to the original settings plus the clock radio was at 12:00. I really could not figure out how the truck would learn there was lights on the mirrors, but what do I know.
