Default Falling Running Boards - Long Rant

Since everyone is giving there stories with the Mopar Running Boards I thought I would give mine. I always thought that the boards were loose since the day I picked up the truck even got under it a few times to see how these things mounted. To be honest I had my F150 before this for 10 years with the same boards and the day I traded it in the boards on that were more secure then this but I guess that is what happens when you decide to engineer them to mount to the rocker panel instead of the frame. Well about 8 months after getting my truck the driver side board fell off except for the rear bracket when I was about an hour from home so I used a tie down to tie up the front and drove right to the dealer. Since it was Saturday around 11AM hey pretty much said come back Monday. So I went home and took both steps off to find that the rivet nuts were installed completely incorrectly. I decided to go on the Mopar store and find some instructions, when I was going through the instructions for what was listed as the rivet nut tool on the Mopar E-Store it was actually directions for a Mopar reinforcement kit for the steps. What the kit was was a set of heavy steel brackets that basically formed a truss between the step bracket and the lower part of the rocker panel. So even though the part was listed as rivet nut tool I decided to order it since the directions for the tool showed the reinforcement kit. Over the weekend I also tried to find some better rivet nuts and found some heavy duty ones that actually spread out about .5" inside the rocker and a proper tool. I then took the truck to the dealer who said they would replace and fix the steps I told them about the reinforcement kit and gave them the Directions I printed they looked at them and said they didn't know about them but would gladly install them. So I showed up to pick up the truck and as soon as I see it no reinforcement brackets. After questioning them the service manager quickly switched modes and informed me they should have never even fixed it in the first place and the part that I had given them the Mopar instructions for did not exist. After fighting with the server rep I spent 2.5 hours at the parts desk tying to track the part down finally after having to contact mopar in Michigan we tracked it down and I ordered it. So waiting for the parts I decided to check out what they did to find they wedged ubolts through the rocker panel and bolted them that way while also not seating the hanging tabs correctly and basically bending the rocker panel when they tightened the ubolts. So I proceeded to remover there hacked job and install the proper rivet nuts I had found at McMaster Carr and wait for my brackets. Well finally got brackets installed according to the instructions and knock on wood no issues for the past 10 months. Sorry for the long rant but been waiting to get that one out. If anyone is interested in the info on the brackets I will post some pics and part numbers. I think I still have a pdf with the directions if you are interested PM me.

Default My Fix Details

Here are some pictures of what I used the first pic is the bracket kit part number. The second is the brackets installed there is one for each of the step brackets I have a crew so there is 3 on each side. The third picture is the heavy duty rivet nuts that I was able to find and use. If anyone wants more info please let me know I did a lot of work to figure out how to get these things to say on as well as my ones did on my F150.

Okay that kit is available for 100 bucks in Canada and it normally is only put on for people that are overweight. And it is not free for them either. I was told that by a very diplomatic service person he had a hard time saying overweight..so what, hell I bet half the big athletes and covboys that are heavy with muscle should have these. I still don't know what the actual weight allowance is.

Does anyone know what the boards in question are rated for sure no guesswork? With and without the little brackets. That would be very helpful.
