Is there noticable performance gain? Have you done it yourself?

Yea all an exhaust shop would have to do is cut off the old muffler/resonator(s) and weld up a new muffler.

I bought a used Mufflex 24" kit off this forum.. Bolts in, sounds great and uses a Magnaflow stainless muffler. New kit will cost you around $240, a little pricey for a muffler but you can put it on yourself. Look for a used one on here, might be a few.

Do a search on the Mufflex exhaust. Fit right in on mine. I did get some loosening of the clamps. Re-tightened, and had to align the tips a bit, but it sounds good.

I got the flowmaster 50 HD series muffler on my truck. Local body shop did it in an hour cost 245$ parts and labor. Sounds great and deep when you step on it.
