A true locker is a wonderful thing (when you need it). Unfortunately they can be a real PIA on the street. Even a locker like a Detroit that is supposed to "unlock" while turning has a fair share of grab in it and will chirp tires a good bit, causing premature tire wear and faster wear and tear on axle and hub components.
As a rule, lockers and spools are reserved for trucks that you tow to where you are going off-roading or to the track.
IMO the choices for an off-road truck that is any semblance of a daily driver should have either a LSD or a selectable locker (ARB, Ected, etc.) which will act like an open diff until such time as you turn it on...

Detroit soft locker isn't bad on the road, but there are rules with real lockers on the road. Don't jump on the gas while going around a corner is a big one.
Back in the old days pickups used to come with real lockers and people seem to have survived. Chevy used to put Gov-Loks and Detroits in from the factory.
My jeep gets driven on the street all the time and I don't notice that it has full lockers, but I know how to drive it.

What Hammer and Oldjeep is saying is the main reason why the posi unit became obsolete and replaced by the limited slip. They are both the same thing but with LS as a much safer and streetable drive. Posi units and lockers are very dangerous to the inexperienced driver/racer. Lockers with no slip fight you in the turns and launch in the direction of the rear wheel alignment..not the direction of the front wheels, and can cause you to crash. However the new Detroit Lockers are said to have a comfortable amount of clutch when turning as compared to the old but I don't say this from first hand experience. Me...I'm a faithful believer in the locker setup, there's nothing better IMO. Then again I also like my tranny shifts to feel like a good swift kick in the rear instead of mush but to each his own, lol!
well i guess ill go with my old setup which was the trutrac like on my old 3rd gen. i heard also that there are some noise that come out of the locker when pressing on the gas. well im not off road all the time and im usually on road. so im guessing ill stick to the LSD. thanx all
I had a Tru-Track in the front diff of my Jeep and found it to be really mannered on the street. Unless you are going to do frequent offroading, I wouldn't fool with a locker.

worm gear type carrier. That's why it is so quiet...it is basically maintenance free and expensive but not recommended for extreme use or too tall of tires or so it's been said. Make sure to explain the details of your truck and usage to the manufactor when or if you purchase one.
