For those of you that feel snow tires unnecessary, a picture or video is worth a thousand words so . . . .

to the OP the HP's were just fine in Calgary winters we got a few big dumps last year and the truck plowed right through. The tires preformed just like any all season on ice a bit of sliding but i take it pretty slow in winter anyway.

now I am big on running winter tires, I have them on my wifes car, and there amazing you can practically stop on a dime. however I am a little skeptical about the tirerack video. Do the cars have x drive? or just the blue one?? and that's why it preformed so well. They should have used mustangs or challengers where AWD isn't an option.

I have been pricing around just to be prepared for the first snow fall if I don't like how the HPs handle.

The Michelin LTX MS2 is going to cost me $1475, with a $70 MIR.

Or I could get a dedicated winter tire/rim combo for $1180.

They would be Firestone Winterforce in 265/70r17. Is this too small for my truck? Seems like it, but the tire shop guys tell me it will be fine.

I would like the dedicated winter tires, but don't want to store the second set year round, I already have to deal with two sets for the wife's Jeep GC.

I don;t know where you live but I got my Michelin LTX M/S2's for $1100.00 Installed and balanced with the $70.00 mail in rebate as well.
Got them at Sullivan Tire in NH. But even Sears has them for less than $1475.00. Yikes. They are great tires though. Very sure footed in the corners.
I haven't gotten to use them in snow yet...but it is coming 25 degreees here this morning with flurries...

I don't care for these tires AT ALL!!! I had them on my '05 Ram, and they were the terrible tires in any condition except dry conditions. To each is his own, but with 13k miles on them, they seem to (as stated before) have a lot of premature wear on them already. I'll be happy if I get 24k miles out of them before hitting the wear bars. Amazingly, I managed 40k on my '05 Rams HP's. Goodyear.... Good for one year!

I am in Ontario, we pay more for everything north of the boarder unfortunately, and tires is one of the worst.

Believe it or not, $1475 is the BEST price around. I had quotes around $1700. Even Costco wanted over $1600.

When I was still in Montana earlier this year, my tires were great in the snow, ice and slush. Just take it easy and you'll be fine. It really doesn't matter what type of tires you have, if you drive like an idiot and think your snow tires will keep you safe, think again!

This is the first winter with the Ram and stock tires. No problems the last three days. haven't had a lot of snow but truck performs well. I put two straw bales in the back for a little extra traction. Works great!

We have had a fair bit of snow the last few weeks, and so far, I am satisfied with the Wranglers.

In fact, it is better in 2wd with the Wranglers, then my 02 Sierra was with brand new Revos on it. Although, in 4wd that Sierra was a tank. I really have not put the Ram to the test yet, but the winter is not over.

Still, I think I will replace the Wranglers with something better when they are worn.
