my question is: is there any combination of the two that will work together? (bed rails and cover)

thanks guys.
Try this: https://dodgeforum.com/forum/4th-gen...ackrabbit.html

A little trimming is required but if you want to keep the rails it's a good option.

Thanks for the pictures Gary. How did the front of those rails attach? On my truck, there's no opening over the front stake pockets.

Mines the same way, both ends of the rails have a plastic escutcheon that covers the stake pockets. If you look closely (or look at PE's website) you'll notice that the bed of the truck is actually wider at the front than at the rear; in the front, the canister and rails set right inside the rails and escutcheons, nearly a perfect fit! On the rear the rails overlapped the bedrails more and covered part of the rear stake pockets, so I set the bedrails back in place, traced the outline of the escutcheon on the rail of the cover, then trimmed it out with a dremel. A little filing and some touch up paint and it's a nice fit!
