Why is the Dodge Ram SLT faster/louder than Laramie
I test drove a 2010 Ram SLT today, with 3.92 axle ratio, has electronic throttle control, and a hemi. It took off like a rocket, and made a sweet rumble. Then I test drove a Laramie which has the same engine but did not see ETC on the window sticker. This truck was not as quick or loud when I punched it.
Is this ETC the only reason why there was such a big difference in performance between the two? I mean, it was night and day!

Also, the gears may have been 3.55's in the Laramie you tested.
I am willing to bet the laramie did NOT have 3.92's. In my opinion and experience that makes a significant difference over the 3.55's from a dead launch. If the laramie had 3.22's then it would really have been a pig off the line.
Way heavier? Really? What is it about the Laramie that makes it heavier?

luxury = heavy. not exactly sure how these trucks are put together but when you talk nice smooth quite ride that usually means electric seats with all the fancey gizmo's, more insulations in the cab and frame, more airbags, power everything (motors for all the power options add up) sun roof ect... i know its doesnt seem like alot but next thing you know you've added a great deal of wheight to that pig.

For the noise, didn't know about the muffler, but I know the Laramie is a bit more insulated.
For the performance, it is surelly because they don't have the same differential. My brother in law have a TRX with the 3.92 and I have the 3.55 on my Laramie and his have a more quickly response. You also have to keep in my that the Laramie have 20" wheels. Don't know if the SLT you tried has 17" or 20", but it does make a difference too.
