If you feel that strongly about the thin metal, try writing to Ram/Chrysler customer service. It may make you feel better. I doubt if Ram will be made with thicker metal any time in the near future. As other have stated, manufactures are trying to get as much mpg as they can. One way is to minimize the weight of the vehicle. I would not be surprised to see plastic fenders, etc in the near future in the 1/2 T truck.

thats good to hear, i was fed up with my gm! There is always the Dent Clinic for ugly ones.

If my truck was made of the same stuff Saturns were made of i would be happy! No dents would be unreal.

The bottom line is that no metal will be indestructable but I agree 100% that the metal is sub par on the 4th generation RAM's. When I started my look for a 2010 Laramie I saw a brand new one on the lot with dings all over the drivers side door. It was not parked next to any other vehicles at the time and the dings were all grouped right near the edge of the door where everyone states the metal is thin. I saw that and continued my search. I "thought" I actually found a cosmetically "perfect" RAM until a few weeks after buying it and observing huuuge dents/impressions around the factory sunroof. After going back to the dealer, it was reported that it seems to be a common problem among the factory sunroof RAM's. My theory is stop using cheap sheet metal and it won't buckle when you stamp out a hole for the sunroof. We shouldn't have to have these low expectations when buying what is advertised as a rugged vehicle. Why drive down a dirt/gravel road when you have to fear that a pebble will ding your door?

The name of the game today is MPGs and emissions. This is a gov't mandated thing and "Green" is in. You'd be shoveling the proverbial sh*t against the tide trying to buck the trend.
Trying to fight for a heavier, lower MPG truck would kinda be like trying to eat Jell-O with chopsticks...

Not sure where you guys are getting this "lighter truck" thing. A ram 1500 weighs just under 3 tons. In the 90's a Ram weighed more like 4200 lbs.

I have a pressure washer and have seen no issue (only 1500 psi), however, I went through one of those chemical washes (touch free car wash), it was OK until I got to the dryer. I saw the metal on the hood bend with the force of the dryer

Just to show you how old I am I remember using a stick welder on my '56 Ford F100. It had cracked at an attachment point on the lip of the fender. If I used a stick welder on this new ram it would melt the truck.....
