730N vs 430N nav systems
I've seen some discussion which says the 730N is a higher end unit, but I still don't have a good grasp of what specifically the differences are. I believe the 730N has an internal gyro, not sure if the 430N does. I'm hoping somebody can shed some light on what specifically the differences are.
I'm not sure why the 730N system is $945 while the 430N is only $400. The 430N has Garmin Nav while the 730N has the Mygig nav. Both have Uconnect, both have iPod control capability. The 430N has a USB port in the glovebox, while the 730N has the Chrysler connection port.
It would seem that the 430N, with the Garmin Nav was a better system, yet it's $545 less. I thought that the 430N didn't have iPod control, but it does. It seems that the iPod control is not as quick to respond as the 730N iPod control, but it still works fine. So I just don't understand why the 730N costs more. I have got to be missing something, but what?

OK, well the 430N does not have DR (gyro) and also doesn't have the Sirius traffic display capability. The voice prompt quality is also not very good. I asked about building a Sport and putting a 730N in at the dealer, but the dealer says it requires a different harness that only the Laramie comes with. Really ridiculous that ALL the 2010's models came with the 730N option, but for the 2011's, only the Laramie offers it. Booooo!
Well, I have to decide now whether not having the 730N is enough of an issue to make me upgrade to the Laramie. I want the sport hood and really like the colored bumpers and so forth. I don't want leather seats and you can't get a laramie without them.
Honestly, I wouldn't mess with either of them. Throw the chummed down model in there and call it good.
I was all gungho to get the in dash navigation in my truck, but not after actually using one for an extended period of time. While it got the job done, it was also a pain in the *** the whole way there. Sometimes it would randomly change directions, freeze up, or (and this one got me the worst) make you pull over to input an address.
I can understand the safety aspect, but the system is too much of a pain for me. Until I can throw a nice Avic in there, I'm using my trusty garmin to get the job done and it hasn't failed me yet.
The only problem with my idea is that the deck opening isn't quite a full double din... Thanks Dodge.

this is a great nav system and I say this having used at least 6 or 7 different nav systems over the past year for extended periods of time. right now we have 3 cars with nav and the 730 is the best, I was really impressed when it said "Take the third right".....that is a good direction verse some others, anyhow that is my 2 cents.
Have the MyGig Nav in my 2009 Ram and at the time that I bought it they offered a promo where if you buy an extended warranty you also get a Garmin Nuvi widescreen portable nav unit. We use the small garmin in my wife's car and also in my TJ wrangler. After many years of using both, I prefer the MyGig hands down to the Garmin. Entering addresses in motion is easy to work around if you use the voice prompt feature that comes with uConnect or you can spend a few bucks and get an AllGig. I got the AllGig and love it. Anyway, for the reputation Garmin seems to have built up for itself, I'm not sure how they got the good name they seem to have based on my experiences with the garbage they put out. Just my 2 cents...
