My oil msg came on around 5700 miles. Is this just a mileage counter or is there an actual oil testing system in the 2010? My cars have this but it comes on by default every 5K and you have to reset it..
should i wait for the truck to tell me to change the oil or should i just change it at 3000 miles? i'm at about 2100 right now and wondering if i need to schedual a appointment
Not a sensor, not miles. Driving habbits and temp (I think) are used to calc when to change
Not only engine temp it also calculates ambient temp. thats why when my temp sensor was bad due to the weeping (said it was 105 almost all the time) that it told me to change my oil at 2000 miles. After the sensor and wiring was replaced the next one was about 5200 miles.
My oil change due message just popped up and I only have 2800 miles on my truck, is that normal? Seems way too early to me. What kind of oil are you guys using and what does dodge recommend? Thanks for the help.

Hemi? 5W-20.
I have said this before. The truck can not give us an accurate MPG and you want to trust it to tell you when to change oil? Set a schdule and stick to it. The owners manual is a good source of info for this.

I agree. I have mine changed every 5000km or 3 months whether or not the light comes on. Better to be safe.
i use mobil 1 since the day i got the truck.. and the oil message usually comes on about 6000 miles or so.. last time i drove across country i forgot to tell the guy to put synthetic in and while driving back across country the change oil light came on at about 3500 miles... so it knows something... and doesn't just go by mileage
