Default MDS/Tuning/top end Q?

Newbie question's

Why do people want to turn their MDS off? As correct me if I'm wrong but does this not save fuel and cancels out when you put your foot down.

Does say the Diablo sport/trinity shut off MDS and the limiter if so what is the top end speed? I live in Germany and thought nothing of belting past the cops doing 120MPH, I would do that in the RAM as I would need its awesome towing capabilities to tow a petrol station (gas station)

Also what improvements to MPG do you get from a Diablo as this would be a selling point to the wife!?

Well, some people see a MPG increase when they turn off MDS. Most of that is in the driving habits though.

I think some people get a little aggravated at the latency between your foot and the motor dropping down a gear and taking off on the highway as well. I know it makes me think about it a little bit when mine does it. Main thing that bugs me right now is coasting for long distances down hill. I find myself having to give it gas to just keep going. Thing wants to down shift all the time. Annoying to me at least.

As far as top end... Meh. You didn't buy a race car. That said, the Hemi motor makes most of its power in the upper bands and not in the lower side of things. That said, yes, you can pull off that governor and be able to go as fast as that motor can pull the truck through the air.

As for buying the tuner as a MPG saver... Forget it. Some people see a little bit of an increase, but at that rate it would take you several years to start seeing a benefit of having it on there.

Main thing you can get out of the Diablo is the custom tuning. For me that's about the only thing that really has my interest. For a long time it used to be that you had to go with Diablo to get the trans tuning, but now SC has joined the market. Just charging you an extra $40 for the options. In terms of a tuner, it's all about what your future plans are for the truck. If you're never going to really get into motor mods such as heads, intake, cams, and headers, then you'll probably never need a custom tune.

I drive a lot of back country roads and find the truck way more responsive with MDS disabled. I was tired of it constantly going into MDS mode for a few seconds, then give it gas and disengage. Ended up being just plain old annoying. Perhaps because I have the 3.92 gears, but really like the 0-80mph launch with this setup. For a long road trip on highways, MDS would be great but I have had mine off for about 1 year now.

Same here, the MDS off makes the truck much more fun to drive and supplies power when I want it rather than 2 seconds later.

If the latency is around two seconds between what your foot says and what the motor does, then it's your truck only. Mine takes around 1/2 a second IF.

I don't personally see any issues with tuning these trucks or I wouldn't be having RDP work on a custom flash. What I do want to stress is be careful of removing your torque management. Yes, it might put more power to the wheels, but it does so as a cost to your drivetrain. Just look at the new diesels and how the chips are pulling all of the torque management from their computer and then people throw some weight on and go for a drive.... They usually end up with not only a busted transmission, but also a voided warranty through Chrylser.
