Default Pics of rear axle service

Service done at 29k, fluid was light amber brown, looked pretty clean but anyone out there looking to just remove fluid through the inspection hole would be wise to remove the cover, I did clean the bottom of the pumpkin, there was a little residue from clutch and break in on the magnet at the bottom, no way your gonna remove with out taking cover off, removal of gasket material really easy with 1" scraper and sticky label remover, just make sure you cover gears etc so material does not fall into system.

You did this yourself? Is it a good idea to use synthetic even though no LSD

I have a LSD 3.92, and yes did it my self, been working on cars since 1987 (a beginner mechanic with proper tools can do this), axle took about 1.8 qts and 4 oz of friction additive, all mopar oil used. I would use sythetic if I had a corporate, why not, better product.

Some people claim that you'll see an increase in MPGs by changing your diff fluid over to synthetic, but I don't buy it.

I just think synthetic wears better and that in itself is a good enough reason to use it.

Synthetic is required by Dodge for the rear axles regardless of LSD or not.

Front Axle — Four-Wheel Drive Models GL-5 SAE 75W-90 (MS-9763) or equivalent.

Rear Axle MOPAR
 Synthetic Gear Lubricant SAE 75W-140 (MS-8985). Limited-Slip
Rear Axles require the addition of 118 ml (4 oz.) MOPAR
 Limited Slip

Additive or equivalent.

You need to use something that meets MS-8985 spec - I used Valvoline SynPower

I just had this done at the dealer yesterday. Two axles done for $175.00.
Two recalls, oil change, one flash. $181.00 total. free oil change. They did not fix the puddle lights but took pictures of it to send to Dodge. They said they could not just change it out. I am thinking they just didn't have one in stock, or just plain forgot it, so the bull$hit comment about they never seen that before. I pointed them to this forum and told them they should keep an eye out here for tips and tricks too.
They did not get my MDS light on the dash to work either.....

They told me they recommend getting the diffs done every 18,000. miles.
So I have 26000 on my truck. So every two years for me isn't that bad....

hey I got to check out the new challenger while I was waiting....
