Default New Tire Advice

I recently got a new 2010 Ram 1500. I want to get new rims and tires for it. I wanted a decent tire suitable for pavement but also one that wouldn't let me down in the mountains or offroad... Steered myself towards the Nitto Trail Grabber... 295/55R20 10 ply tire.

I'm told that since its a Ram 1500 I need to ride the tires at a 55psi instead of the factory 35.

Question 1) Does anyone know how I can get around my TPMS system so that my tire pressure light wont be stuck on or how I can get the TPMS to comply with the 55psi?? The dealership is saying there is nothing that can be re-programmed so the truck recognizes the 55psi as my preferred tire pressure.

Question 2) Is going with a 10 ply tire such as the Trail Grabber a bad idea for the 1500? Whats the ride gonna be like? How much of my trucks capability will be affected with this type of tire?

The feedback will help decide whether to go with the Trail Grabber or the Terra Grabbers, so I'd appreciate any advice.

Thanks boys!

I have the Hankook Dynapro 10 plies, (17") on mine. I run them at 38 lbs. and they ride very smooth. No pressure light coming on for me, guess it could be different with 20" tires. I had just bought these tires for my DAK when I traded for the RAM. So far, in soft sand I have been able to go places in 2WD that needed 4WD in the DAK. At first I thought the 10 ply was going to be to much for the DAK but, my older brother said they wouldn't and they weren't. Since the RAM weighs more than the DAK I'm very glad I went with the 10 ply. The ride is still very good and quiet.

The only way your tire pressure light should come on is if their is unequal tire pressure, not so much as how much tire pressure.Keep all tires at the same pressure.I keep mine at 38psi.

Thought I would take the opportunity to comment on the Hankook brand.

I run Hankook tires on all 3 of my trailers: RV, Cargo, Utility.

Better trailing, better balancing, less weather checking/dry rot than Goodyear, Duro and Greenball. Could not be more pleased.
