Changing Rear Axle Fluid
Today, I was looking at 2011 Ram 1500s. I noticed that the rubber-plugged filler hole on the rear axle was gone. While I could see what appeared to be a drain plug on the bottom of the passenger side of the differential case, there was no obvious place to add fluid. Does anyone know where it has been relocated to?

Might be a plug tapped into the housing on the front side of the axle housing now...?
I agree. When I didn't see one on the back cover, I tried looking from in front on the rear wheels and couldn't see one on either side - just something that appeared to be a drain plug. I thought someone on this forum might know.
I’ve changed the axel fluid on my truck before and am familiar with filler hole on the cover. My point was the 2011 Ram 1500 I looked at didn’t have anyplace on the cover to add fluid. I could only see a screw in plug on the passenger side of pumpkin at the bottom. It looked like a drain hole. My question is where, have they moved the fill hole on the new axel. The window sticker listed it as having a 3.55 axel ratio.
Mine is a 9 1/4 w/3.92 gears. If yours is not like mine as in picture it should be in the side of the housing where the pinion shaft would be. Thats the only other place I know where they put one if theres not one in the cover. Thats where the one is in my 8 3/4 in my Duster.

My diff. cover is the same as Duster's pic.
I wonder if the refill hole is located differently on the 2500 since it has the 10.5 (?) differential....and maybe jdc was looking at a 2500 and didn't know it.

If this is the case, then the fill plug is close to the middle on the side of the differential. (usually)
The 2500 rearend also use`s a pipe plug instead of a rubber plug like the 1500 trucks. The (2500HD) pipe plug can also be very difficult to see without being right up in there to see it. This is also the location were they refill the lube on the 2500/3500HD
As someone else stated, pic`s would solve it
Actually I looked at two of them and they were both 1500s. They had what looked like 9.25 corporate axel (same as my 07) but there was no plug of any kind of the cover. The other difference that I saw was something that looked like a drain plug on the passenger side of the housing at the bottom. I know there has to be a way to put gear oil in but it wasn’t clear where. I thought someone on here might know.
