I have the same thing. The Jeep WJ I had did the same thing. There was a TSB on it and it was called "stop bump". What was happening was the the slip yoke on the rear drive shaft was binding and then when you stopped, it would release tension and when it released, it felt like a little bump. The fix was to take the drive shaft off and put a bunch of moly grease on the slip yoke and then put the DS back on. Problem solved. I haven't crawled under mine yet, but I bet that's the problem.

Do some searches, there are lots of discussions about it. The best explanation I've heard, which matches my experience, is that it seems to be related to the gas tank and it happens most prominently when the tank is about 3/4 full. Every time I hear it I look down and sure enough, 3/4 full or so. Apparently at that level the fuel can slosh just right to cause a 'wave' moving around??

I'm having the same problem. When I come to an abrupt stop I here a clunk from the rear, I also here it when I hit a bump normally an off camber bump. Almost sounds like a loose sway bar. I looked under the truck and didnt see anything. The truck only has 5000km's on it. Going to get it checked out when I bring it in for an oil change

my bet its your fuel tank.....i have the same issue and after looking around many sites it seems the issue is in the 32 gallon tanks when there are around 3/4 full. its pretty weird when you first feel it because its like its lurching forward, but i notice when i run the tank down below 1/2 the problem goes away.

Mine does the same thing. I always thought it was the tranny but the gas tank explanation makes sense. I'll have to start checking my gas tank level when it does it again.

Another explanation is that the ABS on the rear wheels releases abruptly which causes a "thump" sensation but not much noise.

Widespread that what I fear but I am sitting around 3/4 Full on the 121l fuel tank dunno how many gallons that is. I'll fill her up on my way home and see if the problem goes away. It was the same story ths morning on my way to the shop though I'm still gonna have it looked at though
