Not Having LSD on 3.55 is that poor choice?

Hope whoever the builder/shop is thats going to do the job, will cover it the same amount of warranty time as the factory.
And i also hope they do it right the first time when they install it.
I use to set-up diff gears for many years...its an art...!!!!

LSD isnt any big deal unless you are looking to get into some serious fourXfouring. I`ve drove many a vehicles in my day, most never had LSD, and i`ve never been stuck or stranded. (i live in snow country too) LSD is a great option, but not mandatory. Its a 4x4, crank the button on, and drive it.

LSD to me, usually have more issues than one-wheelers...added cost of maintanence and wear. Those who want it, have at it, but if you dont have it, its not the end of the world. Sometimes ther were times i wish I hadnt had LSD, sometimes i wish i did in some driving scenerios

To each his own, some will just bitch about the subject either way

You'll be fine. This is my second winter here in WI with my 09 (CC 4x4). I drive to the U.P. several times every year and have never had a problem. The biggest issue for me are these crappy tires!. I have 33K on my truck now, and can't wait to replace the rubber!

I think Dodge builds these trucks w/o LSD because so many "city dwellers" buy them. Think about it, if you lived in Milwaukee and never drove to the north woods and never towed a snowmobile trailer etc etc.... you wouldn't need LSD, and probably wouldn't want to spend another couple thousand for a truck with it.

Maybe Dodge thinks that those of us who need a "truck" would spend the extra money to buy a 2500 CTD....

Glade I am no alone on this! I have not gotten stuck either but I got a bit worried last week deer hunting, I had to cross a farm tilled up farm field. I had each tire in a seperate rut and I made it. It was kinda fun actually, driving and looking out the passenter side I had a NON LSD truck so I am a bit worried. I just dont want to end up in the wrong place and have 1 tire spinning. I had a 99 F-150 that got STUCK in 4x4 on flat ground with 6 inches of snow! I had an empty 900LB trailer behind it and one tire spun and donw it went. We watched as 1 tire on each front/back spun. Pissed me right off! Another guy literlly was able to tow me out on idle. Just had to get it out of the tiny ruts..

As you would actually need and use LSD given you deer hunt (knowing what that means), I would advise getting LSD. If you never seriously went off road and it was just a precaution for driving in snow in streets, I wouldn't. Either way, good luck.

You will be fine I have had other 4x4s without LSD and they were fine, this one in 2wd is good with the ESP but then when the snow gets deeper flip on the 4Hi and away we go never got stuck, tried to be couldn't. Only way is bury the frame or axle on something hard then you a f.......ed. That is where even LSD probably would not matter. Drove from Windsor On in a 79 chevy impala in 1993 to Pine River Manitoba. High temps were 40 degrees and at that temp celcius and Farenheit are the same. So no plug on it to warm it up and some really iffy starts in the morning at the motels. 2 overnights and we got there. They do a good job keeping the roads clear, funny for about 100 miles when we left we were driving on the white heavily salty road at the 60 mph speed limit only to find out the white was an inch thick coating of solid ice that because it was so cold it was not even slippery. Man did I slow down after that. So what I am getting too is you will be fine without LSD

I was about to sign an order form for a new Sport Crew Cab 4x4 RamBox until I found out that all the Rams coming over to Europe had the 3.55 open diff. I'm not so much worried about serious off roading (but would be seriously annoyed if I ended up stuck in the snow or something) but I do like being able to get a car sideways (no matter what size it is!) and hate spinning away all the power through the inside wheel. Having seen the Richmond Powertrax comment earlier in the thread I looked them up and the Powertrax Extreme Traction set-up looks good but they don't list availability for any Dodge truck after 2001. Does anyone know if it is available for the 2010 Ram? Has anyone tried one? Thanks!

If I'm not mistaken if you don't have the LSD you then have the "brake activated traction control".You might want to see if this can be deactivated before spending the money on a LSD.

Honesty, not sure I really am worried! We just got DUMPED here, like 21 inches and I was out today in it and I had no problems. It was crazy out there! I was pusthing show with my bumper over my fog lights.. it was really nuts.. I actually turned off the traction controll..

If you find one wheel spinning, you can apply a little brake to stop the spin and get the other wheel to turn. Somebody mentioned the lunnchbox locker. I think if I was going to crack my diff open for a traction device, I'd toss in something like the Lock-Rite http://www.4wheelparts.com/Drivetrai..._pn=PTX1210-LR

or maybe even a selectable locker. The lunchbox will click wheile you're going around corners, but I had one in my Jeep and it worked REALLY well when I need both wheels turning. It did require some careful driving in the snow while going around corners, but when going straight, it hooked up like a champ.
