Default Your Tire Opinions Wanted

Well, I just ordered the Rough Country 4" suspension lift for my '10 1500, and I have the tire selection down to two tires that seem fairly popular - The General Grabber AT 2 and the Pro Comp XT All Terrain (both in 35x12.5R20).

I'd appreciate any thoughts or experiences with either tire, because they both seem to have their pro's and con's and the decision is tough!

Also, a few months back I installed a Pace Edwards Jackrabbit Retractable Bed cover and it's worked out really well. I'll post some pictures of the install as soon as I find the darn things...

I have a set of Pro Comp extreme A/T's and I like them. They have held up very well so far on pavement. City and Highway driving no noise. I can't tell you about there off road abilities yet. Don't like to take a $30,000 truck and beat it up yet, maybe in 5 years. lol

I have the Pro Comp Xtreme At's and I love them. Love that they have a 40k mile warranty and they look and ride great.

My neighbor has them on a Ford Excursion and hes got 60,000 miles on them and they still have life left.

Might want to look at Nitto Terra grapplers too... I've seen two different rams with them and they are wearing like iron compared to other brands...

Thanks for the info guys. I like the looks of the Pro Comps, but the Generals got a lot of good reviews as well and are almost $100 less per tire. On the downside, the Generals have a 60K mile warranty that DOESN'T COVER THE LT SERIES. It looks like their warranty for truck tires is 45K miles, comparable to the Pro Comps. For some reason, the General's are also currently out of production, and nobody seems to know when they might start making them again. Strange...

I know a LOT of guys who bought Pro Comp A/Ts a few years ago and NOT ONE would ever buy one again. Seen an old boy wear a set to slicks in 18,000 miles on a Wrangler. Oh yeah, and they all found out the warranty ain't worth spit, just Google for the law suits against 4 Wheel Parts/Pro Comp.

That said, I know the Xtreme series has been redesigned from the ground up and are supposed to be better.

Generals are a good tire, about on par with Nitto and Toyo, IMO.

Still ain't seen a tire perform or last like a Mickey Thompson/Dick Cepek though, although they are among the most expensive tires out there for trucks, so they better outperform most...

I've always been partial to the BFG MT's. If you are looking for an AT tire, they have several good ones to choose from. Always got good wear and performance out of them.

Oh jeez I sure hope you're right about the redesign because I just ordered 4 of them! I found an outfit online in Florida that had them for $338 each, so I called 4Wheel and they agreed to match the price. The best I'd seen anywhere else was $403 each. Well, in for a penny, in for a pound... once I get the lift and tires installed I'll post a few pics.

I had a Jeep years ago with a set of DC Fun Country's on it, and they wore like iron. I looked at them now and they're just a little to pricey for me now. I have a 2003 TJ now that I modded when I lived in AZ, and I put a set of Mickey Thompson's on it and I didn't get 20K out of them before they were shot. Use one as a spare now...

It's a tough call with new stuff, seems like somebody has a great experience with the exact same thing another guy wouldn't touch with a 10 foot pole. I guess in a year or so I'll be on one side or the other of the Pro Comp issue...

Thanks again to everyone for all the advice and info!

I've got 31k on my FCIIs right now and they ain't even worn 10% yet. Pricey to be sure, but when you get double the mileage out of them, they are cheaper over the long haul.

Surprised you could wear out a set of Mickey's though. I had a set of the old MTXs on my second gen Ram, had 68k on them when I traded the truck in, still had good rubber left.
