Not sure what the pricing has been like in Canada, but the MSRP on a 2011 truck that is configured exactly like my 2009 is $915 LESS than the MSRP on my 09. That is really going to hurt the resale. Also, the current incentives are even better than when I bought my truck at the same time of the year.

A guy I play golf with on occasion asked me if I had any interest in buying his son's '10 1500 4x4 Hemi, bone stock, 9800 miles on it. He got laid off and because the place he was working chose to pay him as a sub-contractor he doesn't even qualify for unemployment.
He took it to the local dealer in hopes of trading it in on a '06 or '07 3rd Gen and getting his payments down. Dealer was going to give him $16,600 for it in trade and the kid has a pay-out of $28,400 TALK ABOUT BEING UPSIDE DOWN!!! This kid is SCREWED! Even if his pay-out was close to what the dealer would give him, the only used 4x4 on the lot was an '07 4.7 QC with 60k on the ticker and the dealer wanted $17,995 for it!
So I think you are right in avoiding a trade.
IMO sell it privately, but don't hold up much hope for doing real well on it. As others have stated, with them offering upwards of $15k off full sticker AND attractive finance rates on new trucks you are gonna take a pretty good loss on your '09...

Not an exact benchmark but last week I sold my bone stock 05 Dakota 4.7 4x4 for $13,000 after being on the market for 2 weeks.
That tells me that a 4 year newer and far better RAM should bring close to NADA high retail of $24,000. Problem is getting a buyer with cash or decent credit.
Other factors at play perhaps with the rarity of Dakotas out there.
Also, not everyone knows what was paid for our '09 Rams nor do they ALL know what discounts are available on the 10's & 11's.

Thats what happens when they build to many of them and flood the market...then they give them away.
Great for the person buying, but really sucks if you like upgrading every 2 or 3yrs like i use to.
Not anymore, i`ll drive this one into the ground before i loose huge money again just to have a brand new truck.
...and they wonder why the economy sucks so bad
