can a stock ram smoke a chevy 5.3 v8
Exactly...but there's plenty of transmission techs on here that will swear differently and argue this, he he! Either way...the GM gear ratio has the advantage where the Ram will have to make it up in HP. You can blame that on the billions we gave them in bailout money that they didn't deserve. Seems they spent some of the money on tech and got good tranny out of the deal, he he!
Yup! Typos. I know about the prime 2nd and all of that. There's also been some chatter about Chrysler reprogramming future Rams to use both seconds and call it a six speed. I just put the number up for discussion.

I know it will lose.
We have an 08 Chevy Avalanche with the 5.3 and 3.11:1 gears... I've got my 10 and I drive both regularly... I even felt that my 1997 5.2 could walk all over that dam avie.. It's pathetic.

Merry Xmas to you too...I haven't heard and I hope they don't and just revamp the 65RFE to work with the Hemi..the tranny is bullet proof and with 323 (perfect first gear),183,141,100,081,062 gears (perfect all around) and no prime. Chevys six speed is having problems frying clutch packs when ran behind any real HP and the 402-4 first gear is useless other than as a granny gear. Circle D Transmissions is working on some modified clutch packs as we speak but are having problems with the converters going past the factory rpms but I'm sure the issues will be solved sooner or later. Doesn't matter though, they are useless for racing with such a low first gear. The best six speed out there right now is TCI's 4L80E with 297,233,157,118,100,075 gears and is fully programmable with an 850 and 1000 hp guarantee. Not to mention there is a bellhousing for Ford and Chrysler as well, and both Gen 11 and 111 Hemis. But notice how the gears differ from the 65RFE, it has a very close first to second gear and then spread out where as the 65RFE has them close from second all the way through...very nice for racing. I think the TCI would be better off with a 323 but IMO they are still the best two gear ratios on the market for racing. I am using one of these trannys for a build but that is classified at the moment because it will take some time to finish and I'd like to stay ahead of the comp for as long as I can or at least try to keep a good lead. As of now, all the new Chevy tranny has on the Ram is the initial hole shot and that's it, then it's all about whoever has the HP and that spells Hemi. My little brother has an 09 6.2 extended cab and a 2010 5.3 Z71 crew cab and says they both feel about the same speed. I haven't seen the trucks or visited him in two years but have pics I will add to my profile later today.
Just currious...do either of you Chevys that you claim are slow have the new six speed in them?
On a side note, the 65RFE transmission is second to none, it is second to no factory six speed transmission and is compared and rated even stronger than the Allison. This is the high performance transmission we need in our Rams so this is the one we should be praying for Chrysler to consider using...forget about the rest of them, lol!
