Default Help me choose new tires (20")

To start we have an 09 Ram SLT Quad Cab 2WD. Just before Christmas I went to Death Valley and did some "off-roading" (just some rocky dirt roads) but as you know, the stock Wrangler HP's are total junk, and I shredded a tire and got a patchable puncture on the other.

I bought a replacement Wrangler for now since it was pretty cheap, but the other 3 tires are getting to their last leg and are due for replacement pretty soon. When those go I'm gonna throw an entire new set on there.

So I was wondering if I could get some recommendations for tires. I have the factory 5-spoke 20" rims. I'd like to get a tire with more off-road competency than the stock tires but still have good highway manners (has to be at least as quiet as the stock tires). I was also hoping to get a stronger tire (something with more ply than the stock tires to resist punctures a bit more), but so far anything I've found in the stock tire size (270/65R20) are all SL spec...

From what I've found it seems like the Pirelli Scorpion ATR's fit the bil and are offered in a 285/55R20 (.4 inch smaller diameter than stock) and those are E load rating (10 or 12 ply, I forget exactly).

Does anyone have any other recommendations?

Don't get a load range E tire... They'll be really stiff and possibly give you the dreaded 'steering wheel bobble.'

Good to know. Thanks.

Unfortunately that's the ONLY tire I found that wasn't Standard Load...

I believe the stock size is 275/60/20 not 275/65/20 but I could be wrong.

Bridgestone dueler revo II I'm probably going back to them. But I really need a load range E for as much towing as I do.

Sorry the tire size is indeed 275/60R20. I swapped the 5 and the 0.

CrawfishStu sounds like you used the Revo 2's before. How are their highway manners?

Good tire, but not for the terrain he's talking about.

I'd be looking for something more along the lines of a General Grabber, Cepek FCII, Toyo Open Country or Nitto Terra or Trail Grappler. Something with a little side bite and a stronger sidewall for those rocks. Those Bridgestone's wouldn't be too bad a choice either...

I have the E rated tires on my truck and probably have 12k on them by now and no "Death Wobble".
