Default tire size 17 versus 20

Is there any advantages or disadvantages of switching tires and wheels from 20 inch to 17 inch. Will it effect speedometer. I have a 2009 Laramie 1500 crew cab. Will it effect the pulling in overdrive? I think the 17 inch look better.

Adsvantages of the 17" - better ride, better load capacity, same overall circumference, speedo remains the same, cheaper tire replacement, etc, etc, etc.....

If your 17" tire is the same circumference as the 20" tire, your speedo shouldn't change. As far as load and ride goes, you have to find a balance between the two. If you don't plan on stress-testing your suspension, then plain-jane light truck tires will give you a good ride. If you are planning on doing some hauling, then you may want to look at tires with more plies, and more plies make for a stiffer riding tire.

looks like 35s?

the only difference is the amount of rubber absorbing shock. I hauled plenty with my last truck on 20's, and I mean some heavy heavy loads. truck filled with a pallet of stone, then a trailer with a pallet.

so really,

-thicker tires absorb more bump
-cheaper tires for smaller rims
