I have a truetrac and 3.92 gears in my 09 ram hemi.I use my truck to pull my boat, and both wheels will spin if the ramp is wet. I could peg the speedo I think if I wanted to.Sometimes going around a corner I can feel the truetrac but I'm extremely happy with the unit.500 bucks at complete offroad.I run synthetic fluid and a mag-hytec diff. cover.

That's a great price! Just the TruTrac is $500- how did you get such a deal? By the way, it's not recommended to run synthetic with TruTracs.

Yeah I talked to Barney the tech guy at eaton, he says they say no syn. fluid because some have had noise issues. I run amsoil severe gear 75-140 with no noise or issues. 500 was just the truetrac itself.

wow that sounds like a pricey install...i have a 2011 and want to get rid of the open diff in the rear. and i hate how sensitive the trac control is on mine, seems to come on as soon as the one side breaks lose the littlest bit. snow it is annoying. anyone find a cheap aftermarket solution?? locker or lsd chunk?

cheapest alternative is just turn off the esp in the snow... otherwise you'll get stuck or go no where.

do they make one of the lockers that replaces the spider gears for our trucks? cant think of what they were called but have used in a buddys old f150 and a few hot rods... makes for easy install without messing with the gear setup.

It is generically called a lunchbox locker - Aussie, detroit and a few others make them. I use them in my jeep (Aussies) but would hesitate to use them in a full sized daily driver for a couple reasons.

1) It is a real dog clutch locker - can be noisy and they are definitly abrubt when they lock, nice for offroading or drag racing but not so good on an icy corner.

2) all of the force is transfered to the cross pin - in something that weighs 5400lbs that is a lot of force - better off with a full case locker if you want that sort of locking action.

To me, a true trac is about 2% more usefull than an open diff. They are a geared type LSD and never really "lock". If it were me I would either go with a traditional clutched LSD or a selectable locker like an ARB or OX.

Trutrac is much better than any clutch based LSD coz its all gears. also if ur gona open ur diff to install and LSD so just re-gear and go up either 4.10 or 4.56. i recommend 4.56 coz u get the top of the line if you off road alot and for city use it will save some fuel.
