QTP cutout exhaust 2010 ram

Only article I could find.
I have a question for you race experts only. Back in the old days before cats and aluminum heads; the rule of thumb was that open pipes, which reduced backflow, added HP and torque ONLY above 5,000rpm.
Does that thumb rule apply nowadays? I read somewhere that the aluminum heads dissipate heat so much quicker than cast iron that some back pressure is desired for peak performance. (keeps head temp, combustion chamber at optimum)
