Ride comparison (tire load)
For the life of me and much searching I can not find any topic on this specifically on here
Looking at new tires (and probably wheels). Dropping the 20" chrome clad and going down to an 18" in probably a terra grappler, maybe a cooper zeon.
I've seen a few comments about load ratings - D, E, etc but nothing comparing the two in ride quality. It seems to get any size bigger than a 32" ish tire is going to push to an E rating but is that going to greatly worsen the ride? I would like to get into a 34" but don't want harsh to get there.
I currently have the Groundforce 2/3 drop but that's coming off tomorrow since for our roads here it's just to firm for me. Guessing that will get posted next week for sale.
Thoughts on just how much a D vs E load rating will make to the ride?
Thanks much.

it will make it ride a but rougher that is for sure. But it wont be a dramatic change. Like you said, you dont really have a choice once you get to that size of a tire and the load range E tires are normally good for another 2/32 to 3/32 worth of tread compared to a passenger equivalent so you will get more miles out of them. Go ahead and go for it.
I'm running LT 285/70/17 nitto terra grapplers for my winter tires. I got them at 48-50 psi. They are a bit harsher on the front end but feel alot more sure footed than the OEM 20's. They are Load range E.
A bit overkill if you do the load ratio math but the LT's do have about 3/32 more tread than the passenger tires so they should last a bit longer. The reviews I've read all say the LT's last a long time. The passenger rated Nittos seem to have mixed reviews for longevity.

Thanks guys.
I already popped off the oem crap and just put 305/50 Cooper HT Discovery + on there when I lowered it. Now that I took the lowering kit off and leveled it I think those tires are going to look a bit small. Just picked it up from the shop so haven't made the full evaluation yet
