Default Factory RER vs. Aftermarket

I've read a lot of threads that generalize aftermarket systems as sounding better with more features. Looking for specifics that make them better than the new RER nav unit with the garmin maps.

I have a sickness that forces me to research major purchases TO DEATH. So, I've found major flaws in all the high end nav units from Pioneer, kenwood, etc. I'm sure the factory unit is not perfect but I really have no idea.

I think the head unit, can adapter, wiring harness, satellite reciever, camera, steering wheel adapter add up to around $2k.

My local dealer wants $2649 for the RER unit, microphone, b/u camera installed. Why shouldn't I go for this? What advantage will an aftermarket system have?

Sorry for long post

Jim

While others here will surely disagree with my logic, I bought the factory system for a god-awful $2175.
Everything works together and I just couldn't see ripping a new vehicle apart to try and connect everything for an aftermarket system.

Thanks, starting to think that myself, seems like a lot of trouble. BUT it is looking like the unit I'm being quoted (730N RER) doesn't have garmin maps, that is the 430N.

decisions, decisions.

I installed an aftermarket one and yes it was a pain to trim the dash and connect all the wires to the wire harness adaptor. It sounded good and I ran several items off it but in the end I uninstalled and sold the unit to save money for the factory one. Like it says above I like that it's all oem and made to work together.

When I bought mine, I was asking about the 430N vs the 730N. You need to check and confirm that the wiring will support the 730N. I was told that only the Laramie is wired to use the 730N... if you have a 2011.

1 Atrend enclosure. (made to fit inside storage compartment under back seat)
2 JL Audio 10" grills

I have heard there is supposed to be sobwoofers standard in the Alipne/Nav system?
Can anyone confirm this, and does anyone have pics of the woofers. I have a 2009 CC Hemi 4*4 on a boat to Sweden. And the truck came with the Alipne/Nav system so i suppose there should be subwoofers..

How does that sound system sound by the way?

Yes, there is A subwoofer (just one).
It sounds ok, probably best with techno or rap where there is a sub bass line. Not that wonderful with, say, classic rock stuff.
And it has a THREE BAND graphic equalizer!
