Default OEM Oil Filter Quality?

Has anyone cut open the OEM oil filters to inspect the quality or compare to aftermarket filters? I have been changing the oil myself and replacing the filter with mopar # 4884899AB in my Hemi. Just curious how these compare to any aftermarket filters like Mobile One or Fram..

Made by Purolator I believe. Every review I have read placed the factory filter in the middle of the pack. If you change at regular intervals they should be just fine.

Here is a good site that compares different brand filters against the Napa Gold ones...

Stick with the 899 mopar filter.I have had no problems with them. Tried the motorcraft 820s filters, motor was noisy at startup.Kmart has 899 filter for $5.00 and change.

I'll be using WIX from the first oil change on. Very high quality, very low fail rate. About $7.00 at O'Reillys.

OEM Mopar filters are a Champion Labs filter, same company who makes the Mobil 1, store bought (like at Wally World) Mopars are a Purolator Classic filter, not a Pure 1, but not a bad filter either. Still way better than a Fram.

I'm one of the Wix crowd for the most part myself. I've used Mopar (OEM), Mobil 1, Purolator Pure 1 and am using a K&N now, but I'll usually only stray from a Wix because the others I listed were part of a free with a jug of synthetic oil deal which my local auto parts store seems to run often...

Mopar anything when looking at consumables is ever changing. Especially their filters. One batch may be purolator design and the next batch might be a rebadged FRAM. It's all a matter of what they can get the best deal on at the time. This is why I refuse to use the brand when it comes to fluids and filters.

If you want consistency, buy a Wix or the like.

IMHO, there's only one filter brand on the market and that is Wix.

When i use up the free case of mopar filters that the dealer gave to me as a "shut-up fee", it`ll be WIX all the way

Just to let you WIX lovers, NAPAGold is made by WIX. They are just cheaper most of the time. My NAPAGold is $4.
