It was a Toyota with stock 4:11's. The gear change returned some of my lost power/mpg and obviously helped turn a larger tire. If you haven't already, I would call around to both local and national gear vendors and get their ideas on what ratio they recommend based upon your towing/tire size/diriving habits. I called around and had quotes as low as a 4:88. Glad I went with the 4:56 as I could still tow and drive at highway speeds. 4:88 Would have left me running at pretty high rpm on the highway.

You doing that yourself or getting it done by a shop. what kind and how much are they, is it for a 4x4? Thinking of doing this upgrade but just doing a bit of investigating before.

i am having a performance shop that a buddy of mine owns put them in. he is charging around $700 for both the front and rear. i picked up usa standard gears for the front and rear with yukon mini install kits. by the time i am done should have around $1500 into it.

Interested also as I'll be lifting my 4x4 Sport in a few months. I have the 3.55s right now too! I was stuck on doing 4.10s and 37s. I would think 4.56 would be too much since I travel 50 miles a day on the highway.

Candy, you may already know this but that combination of 4.56 gears with 37" tires gives you an effective final drive ratio of 3.96

I have Yukon 4.56, bought from Randys Ring and Pinion with the master rebuild kit. Total was 2200 installed, front and rear, with the diff fluids changed after breakin. No whine at all, had a trans and gear shop do the labor. I only have 35'' tires and it is way too much gear for any sustained highway driving. Need 37'' minimum for that much gear - IMO. Gear swaps are certainly not cheap...

That's on our FX4, not the Ram.
