Lightbulb Installing HID reverse lights

My buddy has a 2010 silverado 1500 ltz and he just had someone install hid, thats right i said hid reverse lights. No these are not those welfare led lights they have ballasts... now im doing this to my truck as well im just not sure what bulb type to order. I already have relays run to the back and a switch in the cab to turn on my anit tailgater lights.... also have slim 55 watt balasts all ready to go im just not sure what bulb to shove in there. any help would be great thanks. Oh and if i find the right bulbs i will post a tut for everyone to copy lol

Hopefully someone smarter than me will help you out, but the big problem that I see with this is the 921 bulbs that these trucks use are something like 18watts (I think), so I would be worried about melting wiring with a 55watt ballast, even if you could find a bulb that fit.

But again, I'm not sure how that works exactly...

A guy on this forum (sorry, I can't remember who) installed some Hella-type lights under his bumper, right next to his hitch - which seems like a much better way to go to me. Just MHO.

I thought about the wiring too, thats why i ran a relay for both sides so it takes the power from the relay rather than the harness. And trust me when you see the amount of light that comes out of the hid in the factory tail light you will be amazed. and i just dont like the look of more reverse lights

Why HIDs in reverse? You have to wait a minute for them to warm up....

That was me that installed the lights on my bumper. They are Hella Optilux, which are projector lamps.....pretty good output. And a decent cutoff.....

HID's seem a little extreme to me, but to each their own. I think LED reverse lights would probably get the job done.
