Default Towing Questions

I rented a 31 ft. travel trailer for use two weeks from now, and I am wondering if anybody has any experience towing a camper this size with their 1500. I believe I will be towing around 7500 pounds and I will have weight distribution also. I have noticed that on the fourth gens. the a$$ squats pretty bad compared to leaf springs. I have 3.92s in the rear end and the 5.7 CC. Does anybody think I might bottom out the truck, or am I just being paranoid. Please share your experiences.

Thanks,
Josh D.

Your truck is rated at approx. 10,400lbs so a 7500lb trailer should be well within the limits. Here's a good reference guide from Truck Trend:
http://www.trucktrend.com/features/t...capacties.html

Also if you will be doin this haul often be sure to get a sway control in addition to your weight distribution.

i pull a 24ft car hauler that weighs about the same. i use weight distributing hitch and i still ended up going with airbags and now it levels and tows great. i am not sure how the tongue weight is on a tt but i would try to get airbags before you go if you can ... for the low cost (<~100) and simple installation they made it much nicer and put less strain on the wd hitch. i am only running 3.55 so you should be even better off with the 3.92.

Can you give me a link of where you purchased your bags? Everywhere I am looking prices seem near 250.00.

Thanks,
Josh D.

I recommend the Airlift 1000 from suspensionconnection dot com.

When you installed these air bags, did you have to remove your shock absorbers, or did just getting the tires off the ground aid in the installation?

Thanks,

Josh D.

Josh,

Scroll about half way down the page given in the link above and you can download a pdf file of the instructions that come with the kit - it says you can get the air bags into the springs without removing the shocks but also says you might have to depending on how much clearance you get. The instructions talk about putting the bags on the front but should be the same for the rear. Not sure if this link will work or not:

Beautiful truck, BTW! Really like that 2-tone med/light brown. Is your interior brown also?

I struggled for 2 hours trying to push them in.

Changed my mind.

Took 20 minutes to remove wheels and lower shock bolt to remove springs and install bags...both sides.

Note. The springs are specific to each side and should be reinstalled in the exact position (rotationally) they were before removing. Chalk mark worked.

Thanks! The interior is the bark brown interior. I love it except for the light brown seats. They get dirty really easy.

Those Airlift bags are very easy to install. I did both of mine in about 45 minutes. All you have to do is remove the lower shock bolt's and one of the bolts from the sway bar. Support the Axle and lift the truck up, pull the springs out, install bags and put everything back together. Leave extra room for the airlines to stretch and run the air lines through the top screw in your license plate for a nice clean finish. This is what I did and it was pretty easy.
