AFE Silver bullet throttle body spacer - my experience
Hey guys, thought I would post this for anyone that does some research before purchasing as I wish I saw a post like this first. It was about 90 bucks from truckcustomizers so I went for it to see for myself of any worthwhile gains. No problems at all with purchase experience, came in two days. First observation after opening and removing my throttle body, the opening on the spacer is more narrow than the stock throttle body opening, probably so it would give it some resistance for this claimed swirling action. So unless this increases velocity quite a bit, you are actually restricting air intake. Next, the hemi engine cover needs to be trimmed since the throttle body sits higher and the cover will no longer pop back into the front grommets without some trimming. Also, I have an AFE stage II intake and you really are pulling the intake temp sensor wire to plug it back in so this was designed for the stock intake only. finally, it whistles on light throttle.
So, after taking for a ride, I removed it and will send it back. Glad I did not trim the engine cover but just took it for a test ride without the cover. It was only a 10 minute install, and that includes me cleaning out the throttle body. The condition of the the throttle body wasn't too bad for 43k miles but it now seems to idle a bit smoother since I scraped off some buildup and sprayed and wiped it up good. I also noticed a little oil in the intake so probably will do a 'catch can' next.
Well, this was my experience with one of these spacers. Based on this, it was a waste of money and time, except for the fact that my throttle body is now clean as new !
