I may be mistaken but ive been on several inhouse tours of plants that build cars (ex bmw plant in SC), new vehicals are not TOUCHED BY HUMANS robots paint the vehicals in a closed paint booth thats why the paint on a new vehical doesnt have fish eye, sanding scratches, dirt. yes there is very little dirt in a new car sometimes. but NO ONE aftermarket in a paint shop will paint to a factory built vehicals finish. the only time "a polisher" would be used is if for some odd reason a vehical was damaged and was painted in a paint shop. on a normal vehical from factory there are no swirls in the paint because there is no Polisher used to make these. after a vehical is painted in a paint shop buffers are used and most do not care and on the parts that were painted are covered in swirls which take alot of time and effort to remove from the paint. call a local reputable paint shop and ask them after painting a part on a vehical how long you should wait to wax it. point proven.

bmw plants site read it if you need the proof: http://www.bmwusfactory.com/manufact...tion-overview/

from the site above:
Random Facts From The Floor
  • The paint shop is 7 stories high and contains 4.5 miles of conveyor
  • BMW Manufacturing Co. was the first manufacturer in the U.S. to use water-borne color matched primer
  • More than 36 feet of MIG Weld are used on the X5 body to create more rigidity
  • The Body Shop is 100% automated
  • Positions on the line are rotated to reduce repetition, as well as being used for cross-training
  • Paperwork verifying the correct collaboration and installment of parts travels with the vehicle throughout the line
  • Ten bolts are used to mount the engine to the engine compartment. Total time is about 3 minutes for the engine marriage process.

Yep, it's your truck, you can do as you wish.

However, I believe the factory recommendation, to wait, is probably for a legitimate reason. Why else would they NOT SUGGEST that you protect it?

As much as I want to protect it with the latest and best product money can buy, I'll wait until the suggested time is up.

For your spray-in liner, is it more like Line-X (hard, somewhat slippery) or Rhino (softer, stickier)?

Rob
Rob, its definately similar to a Line-X liner. Its is hard and has a gritty texture. I sprayed Ultimate linings for 2 years, and repaired lots of other bad sprays, and I have never seen such a pretty spray job. It really is flawless.

Yes sir, it is a 2500HD, and I did go with the Hemi. It is plenty of power for what I do. I didn't want to pay $8200 for the diesel option and pay .50 more per gallon. It figured up to having to drive 210,000 miles before the diesel started saving me money. And yes, it is a good looking truck....

I always hand rub a new ride shortly after getting it home. My favorite is Toyota's paint sealant, or I'll use Meguire's Gold Class carnuba or Adam's Butter wax. My vehicles always shine like a new penny for as long as they are in my possession. The factory bakes it, then it has weeks of transit time to cure. I'll always choose to put an intial coat of protection on rather than let it get beat by the elements for several months.
