Thanks jawsdc. No problem TDTIPMO. This may not be a more appropriate action than going to the dealership. I am not really known for appropriate actions anyway I will probably get everything torn apart and realize I'm in over my head. I was really hoping there was a way to swap them from the back of the steering wheel, one is already hanging half way out.

 

after looking at the procedure to disassemble the steering wheel, i was hoping you might find a better service location for your truck.

I have done it but at the factory when in the repair bay, just follow his instructions they are to a T. Good luck, don't mess up the clockspring, not cheap nor easy to install you need to get the air bag out in order to be able to get to any of the connections. Now I did this a few years ago surely things have changed but I did it all without battery connection and at full arms length just waiting for that airbag to pop, have seen it pop on guys who didn't wait a bit before diving in also. Really just some scrapes on the faces unless of course you have your face right in there then you really get some bruising.
Drop it off at the dealer and leave, surely they have shuttle service or have a friend if you have one to drive you wherever when it is done the dealer calls you and says your car is fixed and you pick it up, it's warranty most likely so take the gift of knowledge, at least if they get in too far they are responsible. You don't want to look like a fool with bruises at the dealer getting a new airbag installed as well as your switch. Anyway I am not meaning to sound like an idiot but if it takes that much to convince you then ya I am acting like an idiot. Good Luck. Keep us abreast of this one.
