you bought a V8. you shouldn't be complaining. You knew what you were getting into. You bought your truck for a reason, and im sure it wasn't because you get great gas mileage.

You would probably break even in the long run if you purchased a neon and put gas in that. Then people will look at the neon hoping it's some hot high school chick, only to be disappointed it's you driving it.

Either way, we are over $5 a gallon here right now, and I don't have much issue with it. Would I prefer to pay less? Of course, hell I would rather it be free! But, I didn't buy a Ram 1500 for its fuel saving ability.
Yeah, I agree. I didn't sign up for this forum to read about why I should not own a Ram...

If gas prices is an issue, then that doesn't say anything positive about you in regards to buying a full size pick-up. Go buy a Prius and go hug a tree with the other Prius owners so we don't have to hear about your whining about gas prices.

Sounds like the whiners came out after the original post.

All he was doing, was asking a legitimate question - and soooooo many people want to make soooooo much more out if it.

Of course, cost is an issue - unless you happen to be a multi millionaire. Get real!

None. If you can't afford to drive it then don't buy it!

My daily drive to work and back is a Honda Civic. When my wife and I want a nice comfortable ride we go in the RAM.

This is another alternative to the cost of driving full-size pickup.

There is a big difference between good mpg, and good mpg for a v8. 20mpg is NOT good mpg, however it is good mpg for a v8. 40+mpg is GOOD mpg.

I'm lucky that my job is only 9.9 miles from my house but I also get to work from home 3-4 days a week. I did buy my truck for it's milage, I had a 99 QC and it got about 13-14 mpg in the city with the 5.9 liter. In 99' the 5.9 was rated at 245HP, so now I have a 5.7 rated at 390HP and I get 16-17mpg city and have had it all the way up to 22mpg on the hwy. I would never be without a pickup, my wife drives a Honda Pilot and it gets about 20mpg city but is small and cramped to me. We only travel in the Ram. I do worry about gas getting to high but like someone said before, it will reach a breaking point and people will raise their voices and it will magically come back down. I'm 51 years old and have seen this kind of crap for a long time. When I got my license gas was .52/gal, then we had gas shortages and prices went up, they even started selling gas by the half gallon so people wouldn't think about what a gallon cost. When the dust settled, gas was at like .95-1.25/gal and people were like whew I'm glad it's back down to an affordable price now. I'm sorry, but people seem to have short memories, the last time this happened, gas was around 1.50/gal and went up to 4 bucks, then came down to around 2.25-2.50/gal and again the american people let it slide. If we don't start demanding energy independance by drilling here in the US we will once again be looking at high gas prices and then it will settle down to about 3.50-3.75 and all will be well again. I know that evenutally oil will run out, but that doesn't mean we shouldn't be using it, with new techonologies and better practices we can produce the oil and refine gas and leave the environment even better than we found it. It takes money to do this though. Instead of spreading the wealth to people who haven't earned it we should be offering incentives to companies to produce better, cheaper and sustainable forms of fuel. This does not mean using the food crops to produce fuel, that is the worst idea I've ever seen. If you can produce fuel with the by products of food and do in a way that is cost effective then you have an idea that is worthy. Sorry for the rant but this situation just bothers the hell out of me. I guess the bottom line is, gas prices are always going to go up so think about that when you are out buying a vehicle. If you drive alot and don't need a truck for your job, then think about getting that 4 or 6 cyl engine. Remember it never makes sense to replace a vehicle just for milage concerns. You should only replace your low mpg car/truck if you are already in the market for a new one. The cost of a new vehicle will buy a lot of gas. I am considering a motorcyle for my few trips into the office when the weather is nice, and when it's not, I will use the truck. A bicycle is even better, but my bicycle days were done a long time ago, so a motorcycle is next best for me. Currently if I am not going on a trip I fill my truck up about every 3 weeks. So gas would have to get pretty expensive before I would park the truck and would have to be completely gone before I would get rid of it. Ok, my old man rant is over! Jeff.
