Keep in mind, according to a Superchips employee that monitors the flashpaq forum, that the flashpaq Tow Tune does NOT increase the horsepower or torque. The program ONLY alters the transmission shift parameters and reduces the torque management a bit.

Go over to the 3rd generation forum right now where this is being discussed. It is under a heading of; "Just got a 2006 HEMI 4X4". It is a current topic. Good luck!

Yeah i am aware of that as it's pretty hard to pull more power out of these gas engines vs the diesels. That's why i would prefer superchips in this case because they have tranny management vs diablo where there is none. I use my truck to tow not to race. Plus most of where they get the power for the tuner is through finding the best balance between WOT and TP and shift points and what not, compared to a diesel where they can run more fuel and boost up the turbo, which is insane the power you get out of those.

But anyways i was actually screwing around with my dads f-250 and trinity (he's gone to punta cana) and i was unable to put in the tune for some reason and had to reboot the trinity, so i unplugged it at the base of the unit (cheap cheap fragile plugin) well with my clumsyness i broke and now it wont power up and the truck wont start cause it was in mid tuning i dont ****ing know, has a security light flashing. I have to send the unit back to diablo for repair and now im stuck with a dead f-250 harley davidson in the yard. My dad will love me. Anyhow i unplugged the battery will see what happens.

Crap! Now I'm really confussed! So if the tow tune only alters the tranny, do I not run the tow/haul button on? I will be towing a 21' boat a few times a month. I would say somewhere around 5k pounds.

No. If you have the tune installed on your truck and press the towhaul button then it's back to stock.

Basically there's a shift schedule for a)stock b)tow/haul

With your tow tune the shift schedule is a)tow tune b)tow/haul.....so your tow tune is what used to be stock, so if you hit the tow/haul button it's just like your back to what it is.

But like Powerubi Wacon said the tow tune doesn't really tune your engine for power, it would more or less be a second tow/haul......call it overdrive hehe
so i guess its up to you to see which one rides better, either the tow tune or the tow/haul button. Maybe give us feedback of your experience with it.

I'm not saying this isn't true, because I'm no SuperChips expert, but this doesn't make a lot of sense. The Tow tune in SC requires 92 octane (maybe 91?). If it wasn't altering performance characteristics of the engine and was only altering transmission parameters why the need for 92?

ETA: Here's a thread on the SC forum talking about requiring 91 octane and that transmission parameters are not the only part of Tow tune. https://www.superchips.com/forum/vie...t=7219&start=0

According to Ron, at Superchips, you/we continue to use the *Tow/Haul* button. If you fail to use the Tow/Haul button, the transmission will be allowed to shift into 5th (second overdrive) gear. Using the Tow/Haul button only allows the first 4 gears.

So that would mean that the tow tune isn't so much about the tranny shift schedule but more on the engine side of it. Cause i thought if you'd use the tow/haul switch over the tune they are just gonna fight.
To me it seems like it's just any other tune but was labeled tow tune to make it appealing, diablo could of called their 89 tune a "tow tune" and i wouldn't know any better.

I will get the superchips anyways eitherway and will be testing them out, the one big plus for superchips is the torque management, that is all i need as the torque converter was driving me nuts last year gear hunting, but i also had a bad torque converter (getting replaced as we speak) so who knows. I`m sure others will chime on this and get this **** figured out lol

This is what Ron from superchips wrote

The factory tow haul button changes shift schedules, but not torque management in the engine tuning. Which will help in throttle sensitivity (reaction) and firmer shifts.

You would use the tow/haul on the truck when towing so that it will lock out the overdrive, and hold the pattern longer.

Ron

so in other words use the tow/haul button and it will do its job as normal with the addition of the tow tune. In the end it should be better, can`t wait to try it out.

Which is better flashpaq or cortex? I don't care about the powertrain warranty as i already have it with the truck, just wondering as functionality.
