Default Superchips tow tune?

Hey guys, new to the forum and have a question about the tow tune. If I am running the tow tune do I also need to enable the tow/haul button in the truck? Wasn't sure if these would work together or if you only run one or the other? Also, does anyone run this tune all the time or do you run the performance tune and just switch over when towing? Thanks!

Yes, you still need the tow/haul button activated. The SuperChips tune modifies engine performance characteristics. The tow/haul button changes transmission characteristics.

If you have the tranny schedule option on your SC then you can customize your shift schedule within the "Tow Tune". When you activate the "Tow/Haul" mode by depressing the switch or by ERS +/- selection then the SC custom shift schedule is ignored while in that mode and it reverts to factory stock shift schedule.

Sweet... well today i went for a ride in my buddies 04 f-250 powerstroke and brought my diablosport trinity with me and threw the 100hp tune in there....it was pretty impressive the difference and there was a nice big black cloud coming out of that straight pipe. Anyways he really liked it so i conviced him to buy it off of me as i want the superchips anyways. It's just more what i'm looking for anyways.

All to say wish i would of done my research before.

And to confirm what 05dakotaho said above in order for your tow tune to be effective you cannot engage tow/haul button and or use the slap shift? Is that correct?

Not exactly. The "TUNE" does not change with tow/haul or slap shift. Only the shift schedule reverts to stock if a user schedule has been programmed for the "TOW TUNE".

Example: I have a very conservative shift schedule programmed into my "TOW TUNE".

When in normal "DRIVE" mode the tow TUNE is active and the custom SHIFT SCHEDULE is active.

When in "TOW/HAUL" or "SLAP SHIFT" mode the tow TUNE is still active and the custom SHIFT SCHEDULE is DE-Activated.

So...while towing my RV I grampa around in normal drive. When I desire to drag race with a motorhome or pass a convoy of semi's on a two lane I slap shift it into the gear I want and manually shift more aggressively.

I seldom use the "TOW/Haul" feature but like the manual chokes on old cars from days gone by...it's there if I need it.

Engine performance characteristics (tune) and transmission shift schedules are two different things. The SuperChips programmer has the capability to 'program' both (if you buy the trans. option). The tow/haul button only affects transmission characteristics of the truck.

Thanks for the great info guys, superchips it is i'll be getting one before the camping season starts can't wait to try it out and compare with diablo, though i will miss my expensive gauges that came with trinity.

I will most likely purchase the trans tuning option, but mostly for the torque converter management, but might also get carried away and try some things out.

05Dakotaho when you say you have a very conservative schedule what do you mean by that. What visible changes did you make and how does it work out towing compared to the stock tow/haul schedule, notice any difference for the better? I'm just trying to make my towing more enjoyable rather than turning down the radio and listening to what my truck is doing, though i like the sound of the exhaust i'd like to relax a lil more while towing and not worry about my tranny blowing up.

Thanks a bunch can't wait to get on the road again
