Default sweet spot??

anyone have to "feather" the throttle to find the "sweet spot" when racing? If I floor it, it kinda gets going, but I find that if I move the pedal up and down just a little it has varying results and when I find the spot, you get a better seat-of -the-pants feeling....

I think what you are describing is throttle management. Allowing your converter to stay coupled closer to a 1:1 although in reality its still multiplying torque. Where as when you floor it your really flashing the converter. Your getting better torque multiplication and acceleration but loosing seat of the pants feel.
