magnaflow 18" installed... quick observations
had a muff shop install the 18" magnaflow on my truck tonight.. $90 for the muff and $75 for the shop to install it. I already had the resonators removed last year and was worried it would be too loud.. Its not, its almost perfect. nice sound with no real drone in the cab at any rpms' but when you romp on it sounds pretty mean. still have to have someone else drive it to see what it sounds like going down the road...
i put about 40 miles on it and my avg mpg just kept climbing and hasn't been reset in a while so it takes a good bit of better economy to get it up even .1 and it went up a total of .6 with no highway driving all 25-45mph with lights/stop signs driving over somewhat hilly terrain. I started to pay attention and it seems like the truck stays in ECO mode longer and pulls more in ECO mode even going up slight grades while slightly accelerating.
I reset the fuel ecomony recorder or whatever you want to call it so the next few days will show better results.. i have been getting 13mpg all winter on backroads with not too many trips ever reaching over 45mph for any kind of time...
Def impressed with the results, and i still have to retune my truck, just not sure if i should do the 93tune or go with the mileage tune and see what she can get....

Do not expect mpg jumps from this mod.
While the results are positive it is other factors determining the results. Wind, and this time if year, air temp. My mpg has went up by 1mpg in the past few weeks and I have done nothing. Just warmer outside. I have found 45-50 to be the breaking point of winter type mpg vs summer.

i know and agree that many things factor in to mpg changes. i was noting immediate changes after putting the muffler on.. The temp was the same last night as it has been all week and there was no wind or even breeze..
the fact that in was staying in ECO mode longer makes me think its due to the muffler. I am one of the most observant drivers to every detail of how i drive/conditions etc...
and nothing was different last night than the last 5 nights where MPG didnt change at all...
like i said in the title... these were my immediate observations...

I would have to disagree. You're MPG can definately change with exhaust system changes. Getting rid of the resonators and installing a new muffler decreases backpressure and allows exhaust gas to exit faster, which allows air intake to be faster and more steady. With the air/fuel mixture at a better ratio, you will have better MPG. It's not going to be drastic, but it will help. That's one of the key benifits of an exhaust upgrade. It's not just for sound.
I noticed nothing but more noise. More aware when going into fuel saver. If a simple muffler change that is 50 state legal got .5 better fuel mpg it would already be on the truck from the factory.
its weird that when you change out mufflers on any other car with 300+hp results in a small power increase which could affect mpg slightly, but on these RAMS its only for sound and has no other benefits... BS
