Default Engine Swap In a few Years

Alright, Lets just get this out there. I know it would be cheaper to buy a new truck with a 5.7l Hemi in it already but, It really doesn't matter to me as I am trying to gather information on this subject.

So, I have a 4.7l v8 engine and I have been wanting a little more umph since I bought the truck. I've worked on my truck a good amount and I would hate to sell it and get a new truck. Also, its almost paid off, I would hate to go into 30000 in debt.

I plan on swapping the engine with a 3rd gen Hemi engine. MAinly the 426 HEMI. I would also have to change the transmission, I believe i read somewhere that they're coming out with a 6 speed auto tranny for Rams. Correct me if Im wrong or if they already have them. But, I would also want to include the torque convertor found in the R/T Rams. Would this be a reasonable configuration?

What would this cost me? Including labor, parts.

Also, do you think chrysler would be willing to undertake this job? I would really want them to do since they would offer warranties on there worksmanship.

I plan on doing this in two years time.

Really, I just really want to go to the track and turn some heads.

I don't think Chrysler or Ram would touch that job. And if they did, the price would probably blow you out of the water.....

I dunno, might can find a Mopar shop to do the work... maybe. Hemi 426 aluminum EFI and the G56 transmission is gonna cost you in the neighborhood of $20,000 by themselves. Electronics, tune, incidentals would probably be another $4-5k. Labor, your guess is as good as mine, but since the average performance shop charges $1500 for a cam install, I'd guess at least $7500 for labor, probably more...

If you came out under $30,000 I'd be shocked and I wouldn't be surprised at all if it came in over $35k...

I agree, you may as well buy the same truck that you have now (if you like it so much) with the Hemi. Turn heads? It's a full sized 4 door truck, hell even the SRT10's aren't THAT fast from the factory and they have a ton of performance advantages compared to a regular pick up. If you were to put an engine like that 426, you are going to need a ton of supporting mods ie suspension, differential work, new wiring harness', etc.

If you wanted to turn heads then id go with an older motor maybe an older hemi or an old 454 and a stroker kit.
Not very many people take a new car/truck and put old school parts in it. They always take an old car and put new stuff in it. So I think the new body with old motor would be bad *** and I'd defiantly turn my head to it.

That is because in general, people like how the old stuff looks but like how the new stuff works. they want the old school look with new technology performance. Why would you want to put old technology in a new truck? It just doesn't match up.

I don't know about the smog laws in other states but here in California, it would be just about impossible to get it legalized for street driving. Taking an older motor into a newer truck would make the old stuff have meet the new smog requirements. Maybe I'm wrong but that's the way it works - I think.
