4X4 transmission question
Hello,
I had a situation happen today that my experience can’t resolve, so I hope you folks can give me some guidance and or answers about what to look for, how to check for damage if any, and or what to look for in the immediate future.
My wife took my truck to Menards this afternoon and was gone exceptionally long. I called her out of concern and worry only to find out she was on her way home with the 2LOW transmission indicator light on. I had her pull over and stop put the transmission in neutral and then turn the transmission controller back to 2WD.
I haven’t a clue when or where she put the truck in 4 wheel drive LOW. I’m guessing she was rolling and thought she was putting the air-conditioning on. The woman was/is oblivious as to what she did and looked at me like I was loosing my mind. One more thing, the truck is a 2010 Ram 1500 4X4 Quad Cab with only 651 miles on it.
The distance driven was approximately 5 miles with a speed limit of a maximum of 45-50 MPH.
When she got home, I checked transmission fluid with dipstick (no dis-colorization). I also checked the transmission fluid temperature that was 130 degrees.
I took the truck for a 4-5 mile drive checking temperature of transmission, and engine while running in 4 wheel drive high, 4 wheel drive low (20-25 MPH), and 2 wheel drive. The transmission shifted normally in each mode and seemed fine.
Thanks for your time and consideration,

Sounds like no harm was done. But were she could have done damage was being in 4wd and making right and left turns on dry pavement. But sounds like everything is ok. When you go in for your first oil change have them take a look.
Ditto what Truckerman said on turning.
Are you sure it was in 4-lo? In order for her to switch into 4-lo she would have had to have the transmission in neutral. The 4-lo light will just flash untill you come close to a stop and have it in neutral.

Folks,
Thanks for your wisdom and experience. It may be that the truck NEVER WENT INTO 4 LOW. When she asked me why it was flashing, she was half way home and doing 40-45 MPH. I guess there is a redundant safety factor I overlooked in assessing the situation. In any case she will no longer be driving the truck. Harsh you say? The fact is this 2010 4 X 4, is the first one I let her drive of my 1979, 1986, 1994, and 2001. Again, your input is greatly appreciated.
