Default 2011 Laramie Big Horn Edition 6.7 Cummins

So, I currently have a 2009 Ram 1500 Bighorn Edition Ram which I have loved until now...

I recently bought a corvette and having a bit of buyers remorse

I also just recently got a new camper for my family and my Ram is NOT cutting it. It is over 8000lbs loaded and my truck is hurting.

We are traveling more and going to Disney in the fall, out west next year etc..

I live in PA.

What I am thinking is trading the Vette in and the truck and buying the ultimate tow rig. I have the title to the Vette. It is a 2008. Trading the Vette in with the truck would be like my current Ram is paid off. I owe about 29 on the Ram and the Vette is worth about 32 on a trade.

I want a Laramie Big Horn Edition with the Cummins. I want it loaded. By getting this model, it will be.

I also want the new 800Lb torque option for the Diesel. Is this available yet? If I am doing this I am doing this right!

Any other tips or anything I should look out for? I am in the midst of talking this over with the wife.

You will love the Cummins for towing. I had a 5.9 cummins in 2006 but unlike you I quit towing with my truck and now do so with a 8.3 cummins in my class A motorhome instead. So this time I bought a 1500 instead. I had mine chipped up and it was likely close to 750 torque and it was crazy strong at towing etc.

Since you are in a jam and just bought the Vette I will offer to help you out here. Ill give you exactly half of what ever the Vette is worth so you will have cash !! Thats a great deal (for me) right? Lol

You will not regret the Cummins for sure !! Enjoy

I dont want to open a can of worms here but tell me why NOT to get a Duramax???

Please enlighten me.

I used to own a Duramax and loved it.

Love my Vette. After driving it for a while I hate to drive anything else. In fact was thinking about trading up to another one. Only convertibles. Bet I haven't put 400 miles on my Dodge truck in 3 months now.

hound dogg, I agree with you. Its not that i hate my Vette its just that my wife and bought it as a "selfish" purchase. We have 3 kids. All are small. I just know that my camping and traveling experience would be better if the money were focused in another direction, like buying an "ultimate" tow vehicle.

We saved and saved for the vette. I have the title. If I trade the Vette in with my current Ram, I can buy a nearly 60K truck for 30K.

This is why it is such a dilemma for me...

Also being out of diesels for a while, do all the new diesels have the DEF tank??

Urea Tank ? I don't think the Dodge and Cummins dos yet. Ford and G.M. do. I understand what your saying about the Vette. Its ok for me to do it. No kids or anyone else needs to be in my vette with me.

I guess?? The guys Over in the diesel Place call it the diesel exhaust fluid tank. DEF.

This is all new to me. I used to have an older duramax and it was nice.

I see ram has the "late availability" 800lbs of torque for the 2011 ram. Any further info on this? An so you are saying there is no additional tanks that need filled on a 2011 cummins?

Yep its a UREA tank. Its injected with the fuel for cleaner emissions and supposedly it enhances fuel mileage. The Dodge/Cummins is the only one not needing it to pass 50 state emissions.http://www.ehow.com/facts_6809075_ur...-engines_.html Duramaxes are nice trucks. Wonderful ride, quiet, Allison etc. As usual priced thousands for the most part over a Dodge. Plus the Duramax engine is NOT a Cummins. Thats probably more important to the guys/gals that work these trucks hard for hundred's of thousands of miles.

Traded my '05 Cummins for an '11 1500 and although I didn't/still don't haul anything with my HEMI I definitely miss the diesel. You'll not have any issues towing your camper and you'll love climbing hills!
