Just looked up about silicone rtv and rust. The silicone RTV that smells like its got vinegar in it can cause issues with UNPAINTED metal. Its actually got a acid that affects certain unpainted metals. Only the rtv that smells strong like vinegar. Always amazes what all you kind of info you can find in this computer age.

Yeah i`ve heard of that many years ago. Some silicone sealers have some sort of acid in it to help burn thru to the metal better so it seals up water tight. (hence the reason they like the RTV stuff for diff covers, valve covers an such) As far as i know, (or so i`ve been told) RTV is NOT recommended to use on painted areas that will effect viusal places you can readily see, especially if a person were to goop a bunch of RTV all over the 3rd brake light area, it would definately eat thru the painted finish. I`m thinkin a clear type latex silicone might do the trick without hurting the painted finish.

About a month ago I brought my truck intothe dealer for a water leak, I was noticing 1-2 inches of water accumalating under the rear bench storage areas, and droplets on the shoulder of the back seat. They said it was the back window that needed to be replaced (bad seal). Just recently I noticed it was still leaking so i brought it in again and to also get the outter tie rod ends replaced (recall). I had mentioned i thought it was the 3rd brake light, they said they change the gasket and that it was still leaking the service manager said to bring it back the next day so they can continue to search for the leak. He mentioned it could be a body moulding...... WTF

Watch out budd, the dodge forum police will be in here to jump all over you about complaining about that perfect dodge truck. As for the water leak, its the 3rd brakelight gasket causing the leak. They used a cheezy paper gasket in behind the light, water runs right passed it. Another poor design and quality issue with dodge..! The only fix is to apply a very small bead of silicone sealer on the body of the sealing area and put the brakelight back in and snug the screws back down. You can do this yourself very easily, and wiser to do it yourself, because the dealership idiots aren`t qualified and will definately make a mess doing it, and will more than likely leak again because they cant even do it right to begin with. ALSO, be aware that if you have the sattilite antenna on the roof, that may leak too. So put a bead of silicone around THAT as well. If you have the sat/antenna, its located on the top right rear corner of the roof of the cab.

LU229.
Good post on fixing the leaks. Would have been better without your opinion comments. It takes away from your advice.

You have no idea to the tech working on your truck. The 'general'comments you make are uncalled for.

It is not sugar coating. how it is is your opinion. but do what you want.
My experience has been fine with dealers. I have had less problems with my early 09 build than some other pickups I have owned.

Sorry guys, i dont meen to take this posting/thread over or hi-jack it in any way, but i have to apoligize for being such an azz lately. I`m just all wound up over this truck since i bought it, its been one thing right after another with it and i`m getting no help from the dealer. Its the first time i`ve ever paid this much for a vehicle and its just really been not a good experience for me. I`ve went off on some people on another forum and now i`m banned from it for life. But thats done and overwith now. So again, my deepest apology to you all. I will definately tone it down from here on out. I dont want to get banned from here too. Thanks for taking the time to read this, and i hope the original poster dosent get upset with me taking up some time here.
